Bride Rovers GAA Notes.

Under 21’s Lose Semi-Final.

After getting off to a great start last Saturday in the East Cork U21 Hurling Championship semi-final we went down by a margin of four points to Fr. O Neills. Scoring two goals in the early stages which gave us a 2-01 to 0-02 lead we only managed to place a further five points on the scoreboard for the remainder of the game. This was never going to be good enough –we had enough chances to double our tally but chances don’t raise green and white flags! We were still ahead by 2-03 to 0-08 at the short whistle. In the second thirty minutes we were outscored by 1-05 to 0-03 points which left Fr. O Neills winners by 1-13 to 2-06.

Having reached the Divisional Final last year this was a huge disappointment – in fairness never before during any playing season had a panel of players and their selectors and backroom staff put in such an effort. All we can say is ‘Thank You’ to all concerned. For several of the players who first played U12 with the Club ten years ago this was their last ‘under age’ hurling game. They have been a credit to the Rovers jersey and despite this setback they will undoubtedly have many, many more great hours with the Club. We have still to play the U21 Football Final. We reached the Final in May by receiving two walk-overs !

Junior B Footballers in action.

We are back in action in the East Cork Junior B Football Championship on this Friday night. We travel to Dungourney to play St. Catherines in a second round game. This will be the Saints First team against our second string so it will be a major challenge. We had a good win over Youghal in Round One but this will be a big ask. Go for it lads.

Best of Luck Girls.

A few weeks back at the CIT grounds in Cork our Junior Ladies Football team played St. Vals. from Mid/West Cork in the County Final. It took a few late, late points to earn a draw on the night. It’s back to action in the replay on this Friday night October 15th. The venue is Carrigtwohill and the time is 7.30. Best of luck girls.

Co. Semi Final in Pairc Na Bride on Sat.

On this Saturday evening Pairc Na Bride will stage the First semi-final of the 2009 Cork County Junior Football Championship. The teams in action are North Cork Champions Glanworth and City Winners White’s Cross-.

Both clubs retained their Divisional Crowns this season so it could be a tight affair. Glanworth drew with Beara side Glengariffe in the quarterfinal before winning the replay. Whites Cross reversed the 2008 Co. Championship result when defeating Cloyne last weekend in their quarterfinal game.

At the time of writing the match is timed for 4 o clock but may well be switched to 3.30. All Club Members who are free on Saturday are asked to be at the Pitch by 2.30.
