Silverbridge exited out of the Championship after a thrilling match with Cuylloville in Pearse Og’s playing field on Saturday afternoon. It was the Bridge who got on the scoreboard first with points from E Byrne, and D McCann. Culloville registered their first score after nine minutes but a nice point from play from   R Griffin left the Bridge ahead by two after 12 minutes. Culloville went on to score two more points to leave the sides level. Both team traded points but a penalty awarded to C McAvoy at half time was  slotted into the net by B Bellew left the Bridge on top, Bellew scored another point in injury time to leave the half time score SB 1-5 to Culloville 0-4. In the second half Culloville came out with all guns blazing and scored two goals and a point in the first ten minutes but the Bridge boys never gave up and retaliated with two fine points and a goal from CMcAvoy. The game was on a knife edge at this stage and entering the final moments the Bridge held a one point lead but possession was loosed in the opposing half on the counter attack, Culloville were awarded a free fifty yards from the Bridge goal, to the amazement of all in the grounds. The miss hit free was re-awarded by the referee 30 yards out Culloville target man made no mistake with his second effort and extra time followed. Although the first period of extra time started even enough Culloville began to assert their dominance around the middle of the field and aided by their third goal of the game went in after ten minutes of the game with four points up. With nothing to loose Silverbridge through caution to the win in the final ten minute period and although they reduced Culloville’s lead to three points they will have to wait another year to Bridge the long wait since 1972 as Culloville ran out winners on a score line of Culloville 3-12 SB 2-12.
