Senior

Our senior team played Keady in the replay of the quarter finals of the intermediate Championship in Ballymacnab on Sunday. Playing with the breeze Silverbridge dominated the early exchanges and had three points on the board by the 12th minute. Keady responded with two points from frees.  D McCann cancelled these out with two points from play. A speculative shot from Keady ended up in the back of the Bridge net to leave the sides level after 23 minutes. Silverbridge responded well to this setback and went on to score another three points before the half time whistle to leave the score 0-8 to 1-2 at the half. The Bridge opened the score line in the second half with a pointed free and Keady responded a minute later with a similar score. Silverbridge were now in control of most areas of the field and by the 27th minute of the half had scored five unanswered points to wrap the game up. Keady did score a consolation point with two minutes to go but this was not enough to stop the Bridge entering the draw for the semi-finals. This was a much better performance from the Bridge than the drawing game. We now play the winners of the drawing match between Cullaville v Wolfe Tones.

U8 Blitz

We had a busy weekend for our U8 footballers, who took part in a blitz in Cullyhanna on Saturday, followed by the visit of Termofeckin to Keeley Park on Sunday. The team played great football in the blitz which was well organized by the local club and each player received a medal for their exploits. On Sunday the sight of three games going on at the same time at U8 level was a joy to behold and we would like to thank the visiting Termofeckin team and parents for a very enjoyable Sunday mornings football. Next Saturday we are away to Dromintee leaving the clubrooms at 9.30 am all children please bring a packed lunch.

Under 10

On Sunday past, our U10 team traveled to Dorsey Emmett’s grounds to play in the long awaited division 2 league final. Their opponents were our close neighbours Mullaghbawn.  Conditions were as good as could be expected at this time of the year and both teams gave their all in a very sporting match.

The ‘Bridge youngsters were first to register and led at half time by 3 points. Indeed their lead could have been much greater, but great play by Mullaghbawn defence and goalkeeper kept our attack at bay. Within minutes of the resumption, our opponents registered a goal to draw level and it was nip and tuck, score for score from then to the final whistle with the ‘Bridge team winning out in the end by a margin of 4 points.

This was a hugely entertaining contest which was in doubt right up to the very end and was played in a good sporting manne. Congratulations to our team who have worked hard all year and deserve their victory and commiserations to Mullaghbawn who tried their best.

Senior Ladies

Silverbridge played host to Clady on Saturday evening past; it turned out to be one of the best displays of football that our senior team has played all year.  Silverbridge started the game in top gear and kicked  3 unanswered goals.  When Clady did attack the home defence was rock solid and dealt with everything that was throwing at them.  This reflected the score line at the break which was Silverbridge 4-04 to Clady’s 0-0.  Although the away side did try hard the second half was to be much the same story, the Bridge hounded Clady in there own half and kicked some very impressive long rang scores. This was a great team performance all round and some great football displayed all over the park. The game finally finished under lights with a score line of Silverbridge Harps 5-15 to Clady 0-01. Well done girls, great stuff.

Under 16 Girls

Our Under 16 Girls bowed out of the Championship against Carrickcruppen on Monday evening last. The girls played great football in the first half and were level at half time. In the second half Carrickcruppen made better use of their opportunities and in the end pulled away to win a very entertaining game. Best wishes to Carrickcruppen in the final.
