MINORS

The Minors (O’Raghallaigh Gaels) secured the league and championship double on Sunday as they beat Cavan Gaels 0-13 to 1-4 in the Division One Minor Championship Final in Kingspan Breffni Park on Sunday.  In dreadful conditions, Cavan Gaels played with the wind in the first half but failed to capitalise as they passed up on three gilt-edged goal chances.  After a low-scoring first half, it was O’Raghallaigh’s who lead 0-3 to 0-2 at the break thanks to two Cian McArdle frees and a point from Aaron Brown.

As has been customary in this campaign, the lads had a flyer in the third quarter and quickly burst into a 0-8 to 0-3 lead as McArdle & Brown added to their tallies, while Killian Clarke and Owen Duffy ensured the Shercock lads were not being outdone.  Any thoughts of the matter being settled were quickly dispelled when Cavan Gaels hit a quick 1-1 to narrow the gap to the minimum with just over 10 minutes left.

However, O’Raghallaigh Gaels responded like champions, with in particular substitute Ryan Clerkin to the fore. He added three superb points to ensure a comfortable final few minutes for the mentors and supporters to ensure there were joyous scenes at the finish for all connected to the team.

SENIORS

The Seniors final league match has been hastily re-arranged for this weekend and we will host Cavan Gaels at 4pm down the Park on Saturday.  Despite you disappointing show in the last match against the Gaels this match is still of huge importance.  Given that when teams finish level on points, the initial factor to decide who finishes higher is the result between the teams, a win will actually see us leapfrog the Gaels and secure a semi-final spot.  Defeat though will see us knocked out, unless a number of other games go our way.  So last game at home this season, so let’s make sure there is a good crowd there to cheer on the lads.

JUNIORS

On account of the Senior matches being re-fixed for this Saturday, the Juniors attempts to emulate the Minors success is deferred for a week. They will now face Killygarry in the Junior B Final in Virginia on Saturday 24th September @ 4pm as they look to secure their first Junior B since 2002. Best of luck to everyone involved.

U-14’s

The Boys U-14’s play Lacken on 3G pitch in Kingspan Breffni Park on Thursday night @ 7.45pm in their semi final replay in the Div 2 Championship. After their thrilling draw on Monday night, the 14s have to make the long trek to Cavan again on Thursday night at 7.45pm to face Lacken again to try and get a place in the Final v Knockbride. Two treks in four school nights from Kingscourt to Breffni for the 14s. They’ll have no problem sleeping, but what the schoolwork will be like is another thing…..

The Girls U-14’s are also through to their Championship semi after defeating Lacken last night down the Park.  They will now head to Mullahoran for a semi final at 12 noon on Saturday.
