SENIORS

The Seniors started off their campaign to retain the Oliver Plunkett Cup at the weekend with a trip to Breffni to play Mullahoran, but sadly it ended the same way as last year’s campaign opener, with a one point defeat by 0-11 to 0-10. A dream opening quarter saw the Stars lead 0-6 to 0-0 and everything went to plan however Mullahoran eventually got going and tightened things up and by halftime the gap was down to 0-8 to 0-5 and the warning signs were there.

The 2nd half saw Mullahoran take control of proceedings at midfield and gradually reel in Kingscourt and with 10 minutes remaining they levelled matters at 0-9 each.  While Mullahoran then pushed ahead, Kingscourt showed some spirit when Philly Tinnelly expertly slotted over the equaliser to set up a pulsating finish. However, a late Mullahoran winner could not be pegged back, with some late chances going astray.

So, one game into the championship and we are already at the knockout stage.  This weekend sees Mullahoran play Lavey  and after that we will know exactly what we need to do in our final game v Lavey on weekend of 6/7 August. However, it really is win or bust from here on in, but as mentioned we lost our Championship opener last year and recovered pretty well so we ain’t gone yet….

GOOD LUCK

Best of Luck  to Joe, James, Padraig and all the players & management of the Cavan Minors in their All-Ireland Quarter Final clash with Galway in Longford at 3pm on Saturday afternoon. Hopefully a another big crowd will turn up and cheer them on as they look to reach the Semi Final and a big day out in Croke Park at the end of August.

UNDERAGE

The 16s play their final game in a disappointing season this week when they play Ballyhaise in the     U-16 Championship Shield Final.  Hopefully they can finish the season with a flourish and claim victory in the Shield Final. The 13s also had a tough week as they were well beaten by Ramor Utd
