Club Notes 13th September 2009

November 8, 2018

VODAPHONE:

The GAA have teamed up with Vodafone Ireland as an official Give Back Partner. This alliance with Vodafone Ireland provides Clubs with a terrific new opportunity to raise funds.

With the Vodafone Support Your GAA Club programme 5% of a Vodafone Ireland customers mobile phone Pay Monthly bill or Top Up will go to a customers nominated GAA Club once a Club and customer has registered, without costing Vodafone Ireland customers a cent extra.

Funds can be used by Clubs for facility improvements, training gear, jerseys and expenses that assist in improving the day to day running of the Club. Customers nominate their preferred GAA Club then Vodafone Ireland will donate 5% of their Pay Monthly bill or Top Up to the customers chosen Club, whether the customer is a club member or not.. The more people that sign up, the more money Clubs receive. There will be additional incentives for each Club whose members or supporters switch from their current network to Vodafone Ireland.

The programme is open to all Clubs on the island of Ireland and Club members and supporters using mobile phones on the Vodafone Ireland network. At present, the programme does not extend to those on the Vodafone UK network. If by the end of the year this position still exists, Vodafone Ireland will ensure that Clubs in the six counties can benefit fully from the programme.

Club members and supporters also need to register at
www.supportyourgaaclub.ie and nominate their GAA club.

This new programme has enormous fund-raising potential for Clubs and we encourage all to participate. For more information you can contact the Vodafone Support Your GAA Club team on

SENIORS:

Our Seniors retained their Senior status for next year with a hard fought win against Strokestown in Tarmonbarry last Saturday.
Despite 2 sendings off in the first half, the game was played in a tough but fair manner. Brian Higgins was sent off after 20mins and Ronan Owens, of Strokestown, also received a straight red on the stroke of half time for striking. The first half had been pretty even, half time score 0-3 to 0-5 for Strokestown. This could have been very different if Elphin had taken 2 great goal chances early on. Benny Rock hitting the upright with a great strike and Fintan Cregg having a good effort saved by the keeper.
The game swung on a Frankie Cregg goal midway through the 2nd half, putting Elphin a point ahead. Elphin managed to keep Strokestown to a single point in this half due to an excellent defensive performance and 3 late points secured the much needed victory.
Final score Elphin 1-06 Strokestown 0-06.

TEAM: M. Byrne, R. Brady, Daire Neary, B. Neary, S. Beirne, P. O`Connor, K. Brady, B. Higgins, S. Tiernan, B. Cregg, J. Collins, E. Tiernan, B. Rock, Fintan Cregg, C. Rock.

JUNIORS:

Our Juniors were very unlucky to lose out in the Junior A championship ¼ Final to a very strong St. Brigid`s outfit on Sunday in Kilbride. Trailing by 3 at half time, some missed scoring opportunities and a harsh sending off for Paul Kelleher resulted in a one point defeat.
Final score Elphin 0-10 St. Brigid`s 0-11.

UNDER 21:
Training continues next friday 18th at 8pm and Sunday at 11.30am in Orchard Park.

MINORS:
Our Minors lost out to St. Dominics in the Div. 3 Championship on Friday last. The concession of an early goal, a missed penalty and some missed points contributed to a 1-13 to 0-07 defeat to a physically stronger Dominics outfit.

UNDER 12:
Our U12`s defeat local rivals Kilmore in the latest round of their Div. 3 Championship on Sunday.
