The only game played at under age level was the first league tie in under 16 hurling. An under strength Clon team travelled to Castletownkenneigh on Sunday morning last to take on Ahan Gaels, a combination of St Marys and D O Mathunas. Clon had not played any games so far this year and looked a little rusty. Despite this they did well in stages but the ability of their sharper opponents to score goals at crucial stages proved decisive. The final score of 5-7 to 1-6 does not fairly reflect the play. With some practice and the availability of a full squad the outlook is far from bleak for this group of players. The weather prevented three further games being played. The minor footballers were due to play Bantry in the league on Tuesday of last week but the down pour of the previous night left the Clon pitch unplayable. Likewise, on Monday last the scheduled under 12 football league game away to Bantry fell foul of an unplayable pitch. The under 14 footballers also had their game postponed due to an unplayable pitch on Thursday last. Incredibly, Bantry were also supposed to be the opponents on this occasion!
There was no winner of the jackpot on Saturday last when the numbers drawn were, 3, 8, 18 and 28. Winners of the lucky dips were; Pat O Sullivan, Ballymacwilliam; John O Sullivan, Ballymacowen; Emer Shanley, c/o Shanleys Bar; John O Mahony, Knocknageehy; Gerald Harte, c/o Town Hall and Noreen O Driscoll. Clonakilty. Next week’s jackpot will be 3400Euro
