Scor na nOg

On Friday 12th December, three teams from the Silverbridge partake in the Ulster semi final of Scorn a nOg in The Edmund Rice College, Hightown Rd, Glengormley at 8pm.

It is indeed a great achievement to win three county titles and progress to the next round, each with a great chance of making it through to the Ulster final back on home ground in January.  The successful acts that won the county titles were; Megan Burns (Solo singing), Michael Muckian (Recitation) and the quiz team of Eamon McCrave and Peter and Eimear Reel. Peter and Eimear are following in the footsteps of their father, Martin, who also won honours at this level. The common thread between the two generations is, of course, the coaching team of Peter and Brian Murphy, who continue to produce county titles after all these years. Megan is no stranger to the stage, having recently competed in the Silverbridge De X Factor and follows in the footsteps of her father and grandmother in representing the club in Scor. Young Michael Muckian stole the show with his extract from Angela’s Ashes in the recitation section. This follows Clare Conlon’s success at county level in this section the previous year.

In the earlier round in Mullaghbawn dancers Sean Garvey, Peter Reel, Ryan McKeown, Shea Bradley, Eileen and Aisling Muckian, Eimear Reel and Caoimhine Grant won their way through to the county final. The ballad group of Sionnan Murphy, Aisling and Eileen Muckian, Cathal McKeown and Anna McCreesh made a big impact but it was the other ballad group of all the Burn’s, Megan, Medbh, Aoife and Niamh that also progressed to the county final. In the instrumental section Colie Burns, the Muckian sisters, Caoimhine Grant and Michael Muckian also bowed out to a strong Mullaghbawn team. In the quiz, not only did the eventual county winners top the competition, but the team representing the ladies club of  Megan, Lorcan and Fionnan Burns came second to also progress to the county final! And so to the next big hurdle on 12th December. We wish all of our contestants the very best of luck and hope to have them all back on stage in the Ulster final at Silverbridge in January.
