Bride Rovers GAA Notes.
Under 21 Game Rained Off.
Heavy rain last weekend resulted in a late postponement of our u21 hurling championship game against Russell Rovers. The tie was fixed for Caherlag on Tuesday evening but around dinner time came the news that Pairc Ui Chonaill was unplayable and no alternative venue could be got at such short notice so the game went off. There was talks of the re-fixture going ahead this weekend, possibly on Saturday but it has now been confirmed for next Tuesday evening, September 8th. The venue and time have not been decided at the time of writing but presumably it will have to start at 6 or 6.15 at the latest.
Junior Football League Win.
We are out of the Junior A Grade Football championship since the spring but there are still games to be played in the League, Junior B Championship, the u21 final and at minor level. On Monday last we were away to Carrigtwohill in a Division 1 game. We were very tight on numbers but in fairness to the team on duty they performed very well. Carrig were understrength but they had been in the A Grade Football semi final only a week previously, losing to Glenbower Rovers by just a single point. In a low scoring encounter we were well on top in the first half and led by 0 5 to 0 1 at the break. Carrig came into it more in the second half, adding 1 2 but we scored two vital points to win by a margin of one point 0 7 to 1 3. Tis on nights like this that the real Bride Rovers heart and spirit come to the fore – well done lads. We have another game in this Division of the League on this Thursday night away to Glenville.

All Ireland Tickets.
Well it’s a repeat of two years ago with Cork and Kerry in the All Ireland Football Final. The Munster neighbours have been regular, almost monotonous, combatants in the Munster Football Final over the last 125 years but meeting for the Sam Maguire Cup is only possible because of the introduction of the so called ‘back door’ system which gives counties a second chance in the Championship. After next Sunday ‘twill be a case of tickets, tickets and no tickets. There’s no doubt that despite the economic slump the GAA could sell 100,000 ticket for this attractive Final if they were available, such is the phenomenal interest in the game. From our own club point of view any Paid Up Club Members who want their name in the Draw for Tickets should notify Club Runai before this weekend.

Club Referee James Bermingham was the man in charge of the 2009 Cork County Intermediate Football Championship Final last Sunday. Carrigaline defeated Cill na Martra in the Final and James did a fine job as usual. Well done James and to all your team of officials on duty on the day.
Hurling Final.
Kilkenny try and equal Cork’s record set in the 1940’s next Sunday when they take on Tipperary in the All Ireland Senior Hurling Final at Croke Park. I think everyone agrees that the two best hurling teams in the country are in the Final. Kilkenny will be favourites but Tipperary have absolutely no fear of their neighbours. Only once in the last 75 years have the Cats skinned the Premier County, that was in 1967 when silver haired Jim Treacy led his men to victory over Tipperary. In that win of course Kilkenny denied John Doyle a ninth Senior Hurling Medal- which would have put him ahead of Christy Ring. It should be a great Final.
Cork Win All Ireland.
Cork prevented Kilkenny from completing a possible ‘clean sweep’ of Hurling Titles by defeating the Noresiders in the Intermediate Final in Dungarvan. For coach Johnny Keane this was his third win with Cork in this decade. Well done to Kilworth’s Adrian Mannix on winning an All Ireland Medal.
