Do you need to give your car, jeep, van or SUV washed this weekend? Well  you need go no further than Rathcormac this Saturday. The Bride Rovers Under 21 hurling team and management are having a fundraiser on this Saturday July 11th. From 9.30am until 2 o’clock you can have your vehicle washed by club members for just €5. The big ‘wash up’ will take place in the Car-Park of the Rathcormac Inn, by kind permission. We are asking all club members, players, supporters and parishioners in general to support this venture. Remember the time is from half nine ‘til two o’clock.

Junior ‘A’ Hurlers Lose Out

In the ‘Holy Ground’ of Cobh on Monday night last our Junior ‘A’ hurling team bowed out of the East Cork Junior ‘A’ Grade hurling Championship. We were beaten by a stronger Russell Rovers side. We had the aid of a very strong breeze in the opening half and in reality we needed to be well ahead at the break – instead we were down by a point. We started well enough with points from Pat Cotter (free) and Daniel Lane. The Shanagarry side levelled with two points from play. Then goalie Barry Hazelwood took a free from well inside his own half and the sliotar ended up in the net to put us ahead by a goal. Unfortunately we didn’t hold the lead for long as Russell Rovers equalized almost immediately. We found scores hard to come by but points from Pat Cotter (2), Richie Cahill (2) and Barry Hazelwood from a long distance free, brought our tally to 1-7 for the first half while Russell Rovers scored 1-8. With the aid of the breeze in the second period the Shanagarry side added 10 points to their tally while we scored just 3 points to leave the final score 1-18 to 1-10. We were beaten by a better side but it’s a disappointing exit from the championship in view of the way we lost the first round in extra time. No player can be faulted for lack of effort on the night well done to Alan, Dan, John and James for their work with this team.

Team: Barry Hazelwood, Shane Kearney, Brendan O’Driscoll (Capt), Kieran Manley, Sean O’Brien, Tomás Kearney, Liam Forde, Jim O’Connor, Stephen Pratt, Gavin O’Flynn, Jason Pratt, Richie Cahill, Daniel Lane, Alan O’Keeffe, Pat Cotter.

Subs: Joe Delaney, Pat Walsh, John O’Dowd.

Busy Fixture List

Over the coming weeks it will be all systems go with championship games at Minor, Junior B and Senior level and possibly U-21’s as well.

The Minor hurlers have two League/Championship games fixed. On Thursday July 16th we face Cobh in Caherlag and two weeks later we are down to play Sarsfields ‘B’ in Carrignavar – a game which may be changed.

On July 21st our Junior ‘B’ hurlers face Erins Own in Lisgoold in the Championship. At the time of writing no date has been finalized for our Co. Senior Hurling Championship game against C.I.T. but it looks like either 19th July or else the following weekend July 25th/26th.
