Results
League Div 4                The Downs 0:12           Ballymore 1:7
On Sunday morning we played our second game in the league and picked up our first points with a well deserved win. Playing against a gale The Downs went into quick two point lead, however Ballymore aided with the wind proved clinical from frees and held a two point advantage at halftime. On the resumption The Downs quickly drew level and went into a three point  lead but a defensive mix up resulted in a goal for Ballymore and  the scores were level, this proved to be Ballymore’s only score of the half as The Downs added two more points to secure a win. Despite missing a number of players due to injury and unavailability  this was an excellent performance in terrible conditions for football by a very young team who showed great spirit at stages of the game when it could have got away from us. Team: Kevin McGuire, Cian Carthy, Niall Murray, Cian Quinn, Conor Carley, Shane Egerton, Paul Shanley, Trevor McCormack, Brendan Flynn, Kevin Bell, Dean Egerton, Shane Carroll, Luke Loughlin, Niall Folan, Kyle Gavin. Sub Used: Conor Thompson.
Thanks to Clonkill for allowing us to use their pitch as our pitch is having repair work done.

There was a good turnout at the registration morning on Saturday 2nd March with almost half of the households in the area now registered. If you weren’t able to make it to the registration morning or if it slipped your mind, you can still register for Community Alert and the Text Alert Service. A small contribution of €10 is being sought from each household to help with the costs of setting up the group, erecting signage and running the text alert system.  Any member of the Community Alert committee, listed on the information leaflet, will be happy to register householders, take their contribution and mobile number for the text alert service.

The Downs Ladies Football

Results
On Saturday the under 16 team opened their season with a match against Milltown. The first half was a very even contest with only two points separating the sides at halftime. Milltowns greater strength gave them the advantage in the second half and they outscored  The Downs. This was a very spirited performance by The Downs who despite missing a number of players gave an excellent performance. Team: Grace Raleigh, Serena Wynne, Rebecca Kelly, Sinead Gallagher, Katie Heffernan, Lorraine Kelly, Laura Wynne, Niamh Rowan, Niamh Staunton, Emma Murtagh, Hanna McGrath, Aoife Kearney, Orla Gavin, Kate Gallagher.
