Underage Results
Division 1 Under 14
We played our first Div 1 game of 2012 against St Mary’s Rochfortbridge away last Saturday. This was a very competitive game with both sides having purple patches. The Downs started against a strong breeze and St Mary’s took full advantage of this to get in behind our backs and score some easy goals in the first quarter. We went to the break 5 points adrift. We started the second half well and took some great scores, the game ebbed and flowed between both teams and our boys never gave up and were very unlucky to come out the wrong side of the score line by a few points. Our full backs of Conor Coates, Paul Lynam and Daragh Faulkner worked very hard through out the game, our half backs of Evan O’Riordan, Darragh Flynn and Adam Loughlin had fine games, Dillon Carroll and Sean Loughlin combined well and more than held their own in this area, half forwards of Conor Gavin, Philip Martin and John Kenny put a lot of pressure on the opposition defence setting up some good scores, full forwards of Darragh Tone, Jack O’Brien and Peter Smyth putting in good performances with O’Brien dominant at full forward, Ricky Cleary manned the goals in the second half and had a fine game in this position Jordan Smyth joined the attack in the second half working hard at corner forward, Joseph Moran played in goals for the first half and then joined the forwards for the second half and made a fine contribution to the team effort. We look forward to next week and a possible re match with St Mary’s in the Feile on Monday 19th March.

Under 14 Div 3
Our division 3 team have played two games in the league the first against Inny Gaels which saw The Downs record a well earned win and start the season on a positive note. On Saturday last they were at home to Killucan, and this young team despite playing some excellent football lost out in a close and competitive game. Well done to all the players and to the under 12s who were added to the panel and staked a claim for their place in the coming games. League  Div 2
The Downs 2:17  Killucan 3:07
On Saturday evening we opened the season with an away league game in Killucan. The team gave an impressive display and set a standard for themselves for the season.  The Downs started brightly and went into a early lead controlling the early scoring chances, Killucan came back into the game and put The Downs under pressure in the last quarter of the half but skilful defending and good use of the ball out of defence kept Killucan to the minimum. Halftime score The Downs1:10  Killucan 0:3. The second half saw a more evenly contested game with Killucan taking their goal chances ensuring The Downs had to maintain their effort until the final whistle. This was an excellent team performance  well done to all the players and coaches. Team: Bernie Corroon, Aishling Egerton, Aoife Rowan, Fiona Dignan, Laura Wynne, Leanne Duncan, Gillian Ferguson, Roisin Scally, Ellen Tate, Mary Lynam, Beth McGuire, Amy Staunton, Emma Duncan, Laura Smullen, Georgina Crowley, Sarah McGuire. Remember all players must make an effort to attend training if we are to make an impression in this division.
