The under 8s traveled to Croke Park on Friday to take part in Go Games. It was an enjoyable day with  all players getting the opportunity to play on the hallowed ground.

Results

On Sunday morning we travelled to Ballinagore, we put a below par performance in the first half  going in at half time six points down. A much improved second half allowed us to convert our possession into scores and go into the lead, as Ballinagore pushed for the equalising goal in the final minutes we defended with  great resilience to gain the two points. Team: Kevin McGuire, Cian Carthy, Trevor Thompson, Peter Murray, Conor Carley, Jack Hogan, Niall Murray, PJ Maguire, Brendan Cleary, Ryan Briody, Kevin Smullen, Shane Carroll, Luke Loughlin, Sean Loughlin, Dean Egerton. Subs: Niall O’Doherty, Kyle Gavin, Mark Leavy, Kevin Bell.

 

The div 2 side captained by Tyrone Devine came out second best to the impressive home side in Kinnegad on Thursday evening last in the second round of the league.

The lads qualfied out of their Feile group over the weekend  and are away to athlone in the quarter final this Saturday at 11am.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Michael Drury and Tyrone Devine who sustained injuries recently.

 

The Downs hosted first U8 blitz of the season welcoming St Lomans, Mullingar Shamrocks and Ballncargy. All teams played plenty of games refereed by host club underage players. The cold day did not deter a big turnout from all clubs taking part

A Reminder  it is now compulsory to wear a mouth guard for all underage training and matches

 

Bingo continues every Friday at 8.30, come along and brings a friend for an enjoyable night’s entertainment.

Classes every Wednesday from 8.30pm – 9.30pm, in   the Downs GAA clubhouse.  €5 per class.   For more details contact Sharon on 086 8200540

 

Sympathy We extend our sympathy to the family, relatives and friends William (Liam) Naughton of Mullingar.

 

We travelled to Killucan on Saturday for our group stage and with wins over Shandonagh, Mullingar Shamrocks and Rochfordbridge we qualified for the semi-final. On Sunday we played St Lomans in the semi-final and with an excellent performance successfully qualified for the final.

In the final we met Killucan who lost last years final to The Downs and who  proved to be too strong for us this year and were deserved winners, we wish them the best of luck in the finals in Derry.

 Well done to all the girls and the mentors for an excellent weekends of football.

The Ladies Football are collecting bags of clothes as a fundraiser, so you can now de- clutter and help the club raise funds. Bags of clothes can be left with any team coach or committee member or in The Shop. Please ask family, neighbours, friend and co-workers to fill a bag.
