SeniorNotes
Senior championship first round againstAthlone is on this Saturday 21st in Cusack Park. We go into the Game with avery changed side from 2011 due to emigration, injury and retirements. Athloneunder new manager Tom Coffey will pose a big challenge. However our young ladshave gelled in very well and won’t be intimidated by the opposition oroccasion. The panel have worked very hard and the commitment to date is veryencouraging. Many new faces will feature either from the start or during thegame and others are well on the way to getting into the team. If they don’tmake it this time around they may later in the season. Normally it would takelonger to blood these young lads but our hand was forced and we are delightedwith everyone’s effort to date. We wish the team and mgmt well and hope all oursupporters get out to cheer them on.

Feile Final
The Downs3:3             Killucan 2:4

On Sundayevening  in Kinnegad we started our tenyear anniversary year in the best possible way with our  first Feile final win in the clubs history. Westarted the evening with narrow and nervous win over the hosts Kinnegad, thisperformance didn’t lend to confidence going into the final against Killucan whoover came a strong Moate team by a narrow margin in the other semi-final.
Killucanquickly showed why they had the favourites tag as  they went into an earlylead and dominated the possession limiting The Downs to sporadic attacks whichfailed to yield any scores. The Downs defendedstrongly all through the pitch making Killucan work hard for their scores.Half-time saw Killucan ahead by 1:3 to 0:0 the talk during the interval wouldKillucan continue their dominance, could The Downs get some scores and make agame of it. The Downs took to the field forthe second half with the advantage of the slight breeze. The Downsupped their game and were gaining a equal share of possession which resulted inan early goal bringing The Downs back into the game. The Downs were now on topand converted this into scores to go into a four point lead. Killucan came backby scoring a goal to leave the minimum between the sides both sides tradedpoints and entering into the final minutes  The Downs got the final score of the game toput  two points between the sides whichby resilient defending  they held  until the final whistle. Well done to thegirls who showed great attitude, belief and a work rate in the second half to secure a win which seemed impossible to many at halftime. Thanks to everyone who came along to support theteam and witnessed  Geraldine Giles presentthe Feile shield  to Emma Murtagh andNiamh Rowan.
