JFC                 The Downs 2:11           St Lomans 1:3
The Downs started brightly and three points on the board before St Lomans opened their account with a point. The Downs defence was caught napping in the twentieth minute when a speculative high ball was collected by a an unmarked Lomans forward and a penalty was conceded and duly converted. The Downs now found themselves in arrears after dominating proceedings to that stage. To their credit the Downs did not hang their heads and responded to the challenge with PJ Maguire notching some excellent points from play to keep the Downs well in contention. In the twenty sixth minute of the half the Downs produced the best move of the game when a combination of inter passing involving six players resulted in a well taken goal by Pauricc Corcoran to put The Downs three points clear. St Lomans responded with a point from a free on the twenty ninth minute to leave the half time score 1-5 to 1-3 in favour of The Downs.
The scene was set for an intriguing second half, however as a contest it was disappointing as The Downs took control. Our backs dominated proceedings with Alan Finch controlling the Square and was well supported by Cian Carty and David McDermott in the corners. Our half back line was the spring board for many of our attacks with Conor Carley and Niall O Doherty making good runs forward. PJ Maguire had a good hour and finished the evening with four points from play despite carrying a leg injury. He was ably assisted by Vincent Conneely. Our attack caused all sorts of problems for the Lomans defence with  Joe Corroon, Kevin Smullen, Shane Carroll and Alan Dowdall being the main architects combining very well and got some excellent scores from play. Daragh Ayres who had good game throughout, effectively killed the game as a contest when, in the forty ninth minute was on hand to finish off a sweeping movement with a simple tap in goal. The Downs added two more points after that to leave the final score The Downs 2-11 St Lomans 1-3.
The only downside to a good evening’s work was injuries picked up by Niall Folan and Sean Loughlin. We wish them a speedy recovery. Team: Kevin McGuire, David McDermot, Alan Finch, Cian Carty, Conor Carley, Sean Loughlin, Niall O Doherty, Vincent Conneely, P.J Maguire, Alan Dowdall, Joe Corroon, Kevin Smullen, Niall Folan, Pauric Corcoran, Shane Carroll, Subs Used  Daragh Ayres, David O Reilly, Kyle Gavin

Senior Championship                The Downs  0:12          Bunbrosna 1:4
On Saturday evening in Cusack Park we restarted our championship campaign, having suffered two defeats a win was needed to stay in contention for a quarter final spot. The Downs opened the scoring and went into a three point lead, Bunbrosna opened their account with two points in a minute. The Downs finished the half the stronger and went into a halftime lead 0:7 to 0:3. Having played with a strong wind in the first half the question was had The Downs enough of a lead facing into the wind. On the restart The Downs were first to score adding two points before Bunbrosna raised a flag, midway through the half Bunbrosna scored a goal, this was their last score as The Downs added three more points to endure victory a gain our first two points in the championship.
Team: Ciaran McCormack, Niall Nolan, Mark Dalton, Ben Hogan, Jack Hogan, Ciaran Kiely, Stephen Cleary, Greg Crowley, Barry Conroy, Mark Conroy, John Smyth, Luke Folan, Stephen Devine, Noel Molloy, Declan Lynam. Subs Used: Keith Shanley, James Conroy.
