Minor League               The Downs 4-13          Maryland/Tang 2-16
We traveled to Maryland on Sunday evening and came away with victory after a pulsating game. Maryland Tang led  at half time 2-07 to 0-05 after getting two breakaway goals. Our midfield and wing backs were caught up the field on two occasions and we paid a big price. At the other end we should have scored on two occasions for poor shooting and not passing the ball fast enough. We had an honest chat at half time and we played much better after the break. However we still were 9 points behind but we re-shuffled the team and for the last 15 minutes we were totally dominant out scoring Maryland Tang 3-05 to 0-02. We took over all over the field and showed real heart. Ciaran Seery and Dean Daly were tremendous in defence and over lapped to pile pressure on the opposition. Kevin Smullen ran himself to a standstill and took the game to the opposition at every opportunity, with time nearly up Shane Carroll levelled from a 45 metres free and then Jake ‘Gooch’ Cahill got the winning goal after a goal mouth scramble. Maryland Tang attacked one last time and Dean Daly made a tremendous block to deny them the chance to draw level. Result aside we were very happy with the second half effort. We never gave up and Pride in the jersey was to the force. Next time we need to push on and cut out the errors. We need to play for the full 60 mins and be more clinical when we attack. Well done lads. This was a superb team effort. Maryland Tang contributed to a most enjoyable game and played excellent football. Thanks to all who drove and helped out with the team. Your support is important to us as we strive to improve as a team.
