Cardiac Screening
The GAA now advise that the most effective way to identify risk is for players over the age of 14 to undergo cardiac screening on one occasion. It is also advised that this process be repeated before the age of 25. Players should consult their team or family doctor if they wish to get screened and screening should consist of completion of the GAA’s Cardiac Screening Questionnaire, a Physical Examination and an ECG.As part of its commitment in this context and to aid diagnosis, the GAA in conjunction with the Gaelic Players Association (GPA) have implemented a programme whereby any doctors carrying out a cardiac screening programme for a GAA player will be able to send that ECG to the cardiac department in the Mater under Dr. Joseph Galvin to have a sports cardiology opinion on the ECG. In order to avail of this service, GP’s should contact Stephen Browne, the GAA’s Player Welfare Administrator in Croke Park (stephen.browne@gaa.ie or 01 8658685). Congratulations to all our competitors who represented the club at the weekend in Ringtown and in The Downs. Both nights proved very successful with many acts qualifying for the semi-final in The Downs this Saturday @ 7.30pm. Anyone who can help on the night would be greatly appreciated.
 
Senior Citizens Committee
The Downs Senior Citizens Committee are holding a Christmas Dinner Party 16th December in The Downs Gaa Centre. .
 
Fit / Boot Camp
Fit / Boot Camp on Tuesday and Thursday nights 8 – 9  €5 per night, out door on the back pitch.. Suitable for all levels of fitness or unfitness come along for fun and fitness.

Mouth Guards
Following a motion at Congress earlier this year  (See Rule 6.2, Rules of Foul Play, The Playing Rules of Football, Official Guide, Part II, 2012)  it was passed that from January 1st 2013 it will be mandatory for players in all age grades, up to and including minor level, to use a mouthguard in all football matches and training sessions. The rule will be extended to U21 and Adult level from January 1st 2014.
It is a matter for each club to ensure the rule is adhered to at training or practice sessions.
Clubs and players should note that players may not be covered under the player injury scheme if they are not wearing a mouthguard. See website for further details.

Bingo continues every Friday at 8.30, come along and brings a friend for an enjoyable night’s entertainment.

Reminder that a Defibrillator is located at the clubhouse at the external wall of the entrance porch.

Clothes
The Ladies Football are collecting bags of clothes as a fundraiser, so you can now de- clutter and help the club raise funds. Bags of clothes can be left with any team coach or committee member or in The Shop. Please ask family, neighbours, friend and co-workers to fill a bag.
