We are continuing with our free text message service via TEAMER 51687 which we use to notify members regarding various club activities. If you wish to avail of this service, please text your name and number to Marc at 087 8362297. These messages are free to receive and a reply is not required. We currently have over 300 subscribers but would like to enhance it further to ensure all our supporters are aware of our activities and are notified when venues are changed or games cancelled etc
 
Weekly newsletter email
You can register to receive our free weekly newsletter email at our lotto website www.locallotto.ie – just search for The Downs. The newsletter is sent every Monday night and includes that night’s lotto results and club notes.
 
Bingo
Bingo  continues every Friday at 8.30, come along and bring a friend for an enjoyable nights entertainment.

Under 12’s
The under 12’s completed their league campaign on Wednesday 14th September with victory over visitors Tubberclair.
On Wednesday 21st, we hosted Kilcock for a double challenge with the Kildare club taking the spoils in both games.
Refreshments were served afterwards to return the hospitality received by us in Kilcock earlier in the year.
Thanks to everyone who helped during the evening and a special thanks to the ladies who prepared and served the refreshments. To finish off our season, we travel to Clane this Friday evening to play a double challenge under lights. Details to be confirmed by text message. Final training takes place this Saturday at 5pm with refreshments afterwards in the clubhouse.
 
Underage Training
Training from under 6 to under 12  finishes for the year on Saturday at 5pm refreshments in the hall afterwards.
 
Club Shop
The club shop is located upstairs in the clubhouse and will be open during underage  training for the season. Just arrived are youth kit bags priced at 20 euros. Also in stock are ‘Squareball’ tee-shirts in a unique club design and ideal for the summer. Adult sizes at 20 euros are in stock and kids sizes at 15 euros can be ordered. A reminder that crested football gloves are available at cost price.

We extend our sympathy to the family, relatives and friends of Mary Scally of Lisnabin, Killucan,  Noeleen Kilmartin of Kinnegad, Barney Corroon Mullingar and Curraghmore.
 
The Downs Ladies Football
Underage training for  under 6 to under 12 will finish for the year on Saturday at 5pm refreshments in the hall afterwards. Anyone who want to buy a ladies football jacket contact Kevin Staunton.

Under 14 County Final           The Downs 6:9           Clann Gael 1:7
On Saturday last in Multyfarnham The Downs were attempting to retain the cup won last year. The Downs got into the game quickly scoring 1:1. Clann Gael scored three points to leave the minimum between the sides. The Downs improved at  converting  possession into scores and went in at halftime leading 5: 3 to 1:5. The Downs dominated the scoring in the second half to emerge deserved winners. Captain Laura Wynne accepted the cup from Tom Walsh, County Board. Team: Grainne Raleigh, Sarah Smyth, Amy Dagg, Ursula Carley, Alison Durey, Sarah McDermott, Naoise Donoghue, Clara Thornton, Niamh Rowan, Niamh Staunton, Niamh Nolan, Emma Murtagh, Keelin Rowan, Laura Wynne, Orla Gavin. Subs: Lorraine Kelly, Megan Kenaghan, Sinead Gallagher, Kate Gallagher, Natalie Ward, Serena Wynne, Rosin Rose, Chloe Gaffney, Lynsey Duncan, Machala  Brethney, Shannon Murray. Well done to Peter and Kevin who put in a tremendous effort all year. Celebrations continued in the hall afterwards with hot food served to all, thanks to Catriona for her efforts.
Thanks to all who came  and supported the team and to the parents who provided transport all year.
 
Fundraising
The Ladies Football are collecting bags of clothes as a fundraiser, so you can now de- clutter and help the club raise funds. Bags are available from any team coach or committee member or in The Shop.
 
Ladies All- Ireland Final
Westmeath life to fight another day following the draw and were maybe unfortunate to be caught by Cavan.
We brought over 120 children and adults to the final, thanks to all the parents who helped with the supervision and the children for their co-operation. A large thanks to Deirdre Corroon who  coordinated the trip and put in a lot of work last week between  tickets for the  game and the train.
 
Junior County Final
We play our Junior county final next Sunday taking on Clann Gael. Best of luck to the girls, Jody and Mick.
Brendan Murtagh and the Clubhouse are sponsoring polo shirts for the junior team much appreciated Brendan.
