Senior Notes
Div 1 League
We played Tyrellespass last Saturday in the Downs and lost the game on a score line of 4.13 to 0.13. Two goals in each half conceded cost us dearly. We were going very well early on and were 0.09 to 1.03 up however we let them in for a goal each side of half time to trail 3.03 to 0.09. We never really recovered and when we conceded the 4th goal late on we were well beaten. The first half was very encouraging and our attacking play was generally good. We hit 9 points and probably should have had 4 or 5 more had we settled before shooting. The goals came from overlapping by their half backs and midfield. Our inside backs had little chance as there were too many blue jerseys to deal with. We lost the midfield battle in the second half and were always facing an uphill battle from there.  Our confidence is a bit low at present but we have time to put it right if we train hard and work through these tough times. The commitment is the key and it has to be of the highest standard from here on. With the exception of the leaving cert lads everyone else needs to be in the park working hard to get into shape for championship in just over 3 weeks from now.

Junior A championship
We travelled to Athlone on Sunday to play the first game in the Jnr A championship. We were missing a lot of players due to a variety of reasons but credit to those who made it as we had a splendid victory by 4.08 to 1.05. Playing against the wind in the first half we worked the ball very well. Quick hands and good decision making paid dividends as we let 2.01 to 0.03 at the break. Keith Shanley and Shane Raleigh both hit good goals to finish off excellent moves. The second half was excellent for us as we never took the foot off the gas and ran out strong winners. Jake Cahill who came on at half time hit 1.04 and showed that he can play at this level with ease. We had a good mixture of experience and youth throughout the team. Conditions were tough with high temperatures but the game was played in good spirits. Thanks to all who made the effort and contributed to what was a good result. Team K Mc Guire, S Egerton, P Cochrane, C Quinn, D Daly, M Leavy, D Moran, T Mc Cormick, L Farrell, S Raleigh, J Corroon, K Gavin, K Bell, K Shanley, S Carroll. Subs all used J Cahill, J Mc Cormick, T Kelly.

Under 12 boys
The lads put up 2 terrific performances vs St Lomans in the league on Tuesday May 15th before finishing on the wrong side of a 5-18 to 5-13 aggregate scoreline. Played on the astroturf at Lakepoint Park, all of our 29 players worked very hard in difficult circumstances and were ably led by captains Euan Lagan and Sean Dunne.
On Wednesday last we travelled to Multyfarnham and came away with the spoils after 2 entertaining games with captains Luke Smith and David Smyth leading the way. Both lads showed maturity beyond their years with some excellent post match analysis in the dressing room. Good luck to Multyfarnham who are in the middle of building a very impressive community centre and we look forward to returning when complete.
This Saturday, the lads travel to County Down for the annual Newry Mitchell’s Tournament – all players will be notified about arrangements – any queries contact Marc.

Under 10’s
Our under 10 boys played two challenge matches recently in The Downs against Shandonagh & St Lomans. Our players have been divided into two evenly matched teams: The Downs Black & The Downs Amber. Both games were competitive & all players got game time before the North Westmeath league started.
We had a bye in the 1st round of the league so our 1st match was away to Ballynacargy on Wed 16th May. This game was played by The Downs Black team. After going well ahead in the 1st half, The Downs let the lead slip and Ballynacargy came right back into it. But The Downs held out towards the end of the second half to win by 5 points. Well done to all involved.

Results
On Tuesday evening both our Junior team and Under 14 team were playing at home.
The under 14 team played Moate and despite leading for much of the game conceded two late goals which gave the two points to Moate. This game was played at a fantastic pace with a high level of skill and some excellent scores from both sides.
The Juniors playing Killucan started slowly which gave Killucan the advantage in the first half leaving had a lot to do for the second half, The Downs improved their game in the second half and continued to  reduced the lead throughout the half  but unfortunately time ran out with 3 points the difference between the sides.
