Club Notes from week ending August 3rd

November 8, 2018

Last weeked was the re-opening of Fr McGee Park. It started on Saturday with a very successful treasure hunt that took people in their cars to Rathmore, Clonback, Legga, Moyne, Crott and Smear. The winning car was James and Maura McKeon, Smear.
On Sunday, Mass was celebrated by Fr McKeon and included Club players from all ages from Under 8’s upwards including the 1958 team that last won the championship

The official re-opening of the Fr. McGee Park took place on Sunday last and this was a great success. During the day our U/14’s played Gowna in a tournament which Colmcille won well. Our Ladies played Mullinalaghta in a game which we also won. Our U/8’s and U/10’s played during half time of the senior game. In this senior game we played Drumlish in the league and this ended in a draw. Our Junior team then played against Mullinalaghta in a game where we won quite easily.

In attendance was Bishop Colm O’Reilly, Longford Co Board representatives, Co Council representatives, the McGee family and many more.

The day was a great success and the sun shone throughout. It was a great day for the club and one that all members can be proud off. We now have one of the best club grounds in the region and the future of our club is in good shape with the facilities that are in place.

Later that night, there was a fundraiser where the Colmcille Rose was up for grabs. The competition was high but after much deliberation  by the judges, Miss Smear took the crown (aka Gabriel Reilly as you never seen him before). Well done to all Roses with a great performance carried out in tights, bra’s and other items of women’s clothing.

The club would like to thank all those who helped out in any way towards making this day such a great success. Keep and eye on website for sale of DVD and Booklet.

Our minor amalgamation Colmcille/Clonbroney were beaten by St. Vincents on Monday of last week. Our U/12’s lost out to Killoe in the fun league on Thursday last. In the semi final of the U/16 B championship we are due to play Shannon Gaels on Thursday 7th. Our U/14’s are due to play Killoe in the A championship quarter final on Sunday next. For confirmation of both of these games, please check fixtures list.
