Senior

The Fr. McGee Memorial Park will re-open on the August Bank Holiday weekend commencing with a car treasure hunt on Saturday 2nd August. A special Mass will be celebrated in Colmcille Church on Sunday 3rd August at 9.30am for past, present members and 1958 team members. A family day with activities and presentations for all ages will be held in the park throughout the day with the official re-opening at 3pm by Bishop Colm O’Reilly. A historical souvenir booklet will be available. All help in preparing the park will be appreciated. Please contact Peter Reilly on 086-223854 or Peter Murtagh on 086-0724904

The senior team were defeated by 5 points on Friday evening last by Ballymahon in the Bertie Allen Cup played at Devine Park. We were down by 1-3 to 0-0 after 10 minutes but got on the score board with points from Paul Murtagh (45), Tommy Doyle and Brendan McCabe (fine effort from the right hand side of the pitch). Two more points from Mark O Connor before half time left us trailing by 1-5 to 0-3 at half time. Playing against the wind in the second half, it was a tall order to come back. However, the players showed fierce spirit and determination and dominated the second half. But from some poor referring decisions a few balls hitting the bar we would have won this game. However, the absence of our 4 county players as well as Donie McKeon who was on holidays was noted. Ballymahon were missing one regular and are one of the championship favourites for this years championship. Its another trophy missed out on but hopefully the senior team can learn from this game and push on strong leading into the quarter final of championship in mid August.

Team:
G Tonra, P Murtagh (0-1), D Murtagh, O McGivney, F Kavanagh, G Murtagh, B Brady, N Brady, D S Reilly, A Gormley, JP Reilly (0-1), P McKeon, T Doyle (0-2, 1 free), B McCabe (0-1), P Murtagh (0-2, 1 45)
Subs Used: P Kennedy, A McKeon, P Brady

Minor

Our U12’s were beaten by Carrick Sarsfields in the fun league on Monday week last. Our U14’s had a good win on Tuesday week last against Ballymahon/Forgney in the Division 2 B semi final and they now go on to meet St. Vincent’s in the final. Our juvenile amalgamation Colmcille/Clonbroney had a good win over Kenagh in the first round of the juvenile championship on Thursday evening last. Our juvenile amalgamation are due to play Longford Slashers on Thursday 24th in the Summer League. All minors and juveniles are asked to attend training as arranged by their trainers as Colmcille/Clonbroney are due to play the winners of the Wolfe Tones v. Carrick Sarsfields game in the minor championship B quarter final. Hard luck to our seniors who were beaten by Ballymahon on Friday evening last in the Allen Cup final. Also to Longford seniors who lost to Laois on Saturday evening last. Best of luck to our seniors who play Fr. Manning Gaels in the next round of the league on Saturday next. Players in all competitions, please check fixtures for confirmation of these games. Work is nearly completed on the refurbishment of the Fr. McGee Park in preparation for the official opening which is due to take place over the bank holiday weekend in August, and anybody who wishes to give a hand can contact either Peter Reilly or Peter Murtagh.
