Club Notes week ending April 5th

November 8, 2018

We welcome back the senior team from their weeks break in Lanzarote. Hopefully we will get some photos to put up on the site soon. They didn’t get much time to prepare the minds and bodies and made the trip to ‘the laurels’ on Sunday afternoon last for Round 3 of the All County League Div 1.Unfortunately we left with a one point defeat – St Columba’s 1-6, Colmcille 0-8. The game was there for the taking with a lot of wasted chances in the first half (HT score 1-3 , 0-5). Credit must go to a gutsy St Columba’s team who never let up on the day and got the scores that mattered.

While there can be no excuses for the defeat on Sunday, the first team is still very much under strength missing the following players from the 2008 panel – Donie McKeon (emigrated), Ollie McGivney (inj), Brian Brady (inj), Podge Murtagh (inj), Brendan McCabe (unavailable), Philip Brady & Derek Murtagh aswell as 2009 newcomers to the panel Ciaran Brady (inj) and Colm Mulligan. Enda Farrell returned from injury and appeared in the second half but Paul Kennedy received a bad leg injury in a game which was a highly physical affair. Hopefully Paul will recover soon and back into action.

Team: G Tonra, K Reilly, D S Reilly, P Kennedy, G Murtagh, N Farrell, F Kavanagh, A Gormley 0-1, P McKeon 0-2 (2f), JP Reilly, N Brady, P Murtagh 0-1 (f), T Doyle (3f), D Farrell, N Hudson.

Subs Used. Enda Farrell. Next up in Div 1 is a home game against Dromard on April 19th.

The Minor Club would like to welcome their new Secretary Edel Hawkins on board and we hope she enjoys her time with the Club. Our minor amalgamation drew with Ballymahon/Forgney on Saturday last in the Special Minor League. They are due to play Wolfe Tones on Wednesday 8th and Granard/Ballymore on Friday 10th. Please check fixtures for confirmation of these games. The U/14 Feile still remains to be played but is likely to be played on Tuesday 7th. Results will appear next week. Training continues for all ages as arranged by their managers. A minor blitz is due to commence shortly in County Longford involving all age groups from U/8’s up to and including minors. Details of these games will soon be available. The minor club’s annual Easter Draw will be held on Saturday night next in Murtaghs and tickets are on sale from players and various locations in the area. Please support. We wish the Longford Seniors the best of luck next weekend when they play Tipperary in their last game of the league. The club would like to extend its sympathy to the family of Aaron Hagan, Drumlish who died recently in a tragic accident and to John Farrell, Rathmore who passed away last week. May they rest in peace.

There are no senior fixtures this weekend however the following u-14 fixtures are taking place soon. Only our club fixtures are included.
