AGM 2009

The annual Club AGM was held in the Community Center on Sunday evening last in front of a very large attendance. Chairman Seamus Treacy gave a detailed account on a very successful year on and off the field in 2008. In particular, the expressed his delight at the successful re-Opening of Fr McGee park in August and thanked everyone who helped out and contributed to making Fr McGee park one of the best grounds in the County. He gave a detailed account of the senior teams progress in 2008, culminating in the Sean Connolly Cup returning to the parish for the first time since 1958. The year also included defeat in the Leader Cup Semi Final and two games in the AIB Club Championship against Eire Og where the team lost by a point after a replay and extra time. He thanked the players and the management team of Ciaran Brady, Cathal Lee, Padraig Mulligan and Ali McGauran for their efforts and hard work all year. He also thanked the Junior management team of Pat Brady, Raymond Daly and Andy McKeon who guided the team to the Semi Final of the Junior championship and the Div 3 final. He thanked those who participated in Scor na nOg and congratulated our Novelty Act on reaching the Leinster final. Finally, he thanked all those who helped out with the running of the club and all who contributed to fundraising activities during the year.

Secretary Margaret Murtagh read the minutes of last years AGM and also gave a detailed account of the clubs activities throughout 2008. She thanked everyone who assissted her through out the year and said she would not be seeking re-election in 2009.

Treasurers Peter Murtagh and Peter Reilly went through the clubs income and expenditure for the year with a detailed breakdown of all items. It was evident that it costs a lot of money to run the club for the year and they expressed their thanks to everyone who helped out in various ways, selling lotto tickets and generally contributing to all fundraising activities. In particular, they thanked all those who helped with the park re-opening and the volunteers who offered their time and expertise.

The election of officers then took place. Seamus Treacy was not contested for chairman and remains in the chair for 2009. Marie Keenan Reilly moved from assistant secretary into the vice chairman role. Peter Murtagh was elected secretary replacing Margaret Murtagh who now moves down to assistant secretary. Peter Reilly remains on as joint treasurer with Colm Ginty elected as his assistant. This is Colm’s first role as a club officer and we wish him the best of luck, no doubt he will do a great job with Peter in managing the financial affairs of the club.
Myles Reilly and Barney Murtagh were elected as Registrar with Jackie Flanagan retaining the role as Irish Officer.
Pearse Daly remains as PRO with Enda McGahern as his assistant.
Dermot Murphy remains as Insurance Officer for another year.

The full list of members are listed below.

Voting took place for Player and Club Person of the year. Gary Murtagh picked up Player of the Year with joint treasurers Peter Reilly/Peter Murtagh and John Reilly voted Club Persons of the year. These awards will be presented at the club Dinner Dance on Feb 7th in the Brefni Arms, Arva. Tickets for this event will be on sale shortly in what promises to be a great nights entertainment.

Votes of sympathy was expressed to all current or former club members who passed away throughout the year, in particular to Tom Donohoe who just recently passed away. Tom was a current vice-president and former club chairman. Toms achievements and role in the club since the 1940’s have been well documented and he will be sorely missed by all.

There was no election of team selectors or trainers for 2009 as this is currently being carried out by the executive committe.

The meeting was concluded with all posts filled and issues addressed without any hitch. This was understandable given the year the club has had in 2008. Hopefully 2009 will be just as successful.

Granard.  May they rest in peace.
