Club Notes Week Ending May 11th

November 8, 2018

This weekend marked the GAA 125 year Celebrations around the country. Our club participated by celebrating mass in
St Colmcille Church which included singing, Irish dancing, Colmcille GAA symbols, readings and a brief history of
the GAA in Colmcille given by Eugene McGee.
Refreshments were served in the Community Center afterwards where the crowds were entertained by Irish dancing,
viewing of Club photos and talk of times past.

It was then up to Fr McGee Park where under age sporting events took place for the kids. A barbeque served up food to
keep people going during the day.. The Senior and Junior football teams concluded the
day with a high quality game of football in the scorching sunshine. The club house was decorated with photos from 1913 to the present time. These framed photos will remain on the wall of Club Rooms for all to see over the coming years.
As reigning Longford County Champions, people reflected on times past, especially when success on the field was
scarce and resources off it were few. People got to dwell about events down through the years that lead to the Club going between Junior and Senior to now being one of the strongest in the County. Its testament to the hard work and dedication of many people in the Club since it was founded in 1890 – and which will hopefully continue for another 125 years.

Keep an eye on our club website for photos of the day.

We would like to say well done to the organizing committee lead my Marie Reilly – you all know who you are.

Shane Connolly Benefit Dance

The club are holding a benefit dance for Shane Connolly on May 30th. Unfortunately Shane had a serious car accident on March 8th and suffered serious head injuries. Since then, Shane has undergone treatment in a number of hospitals  and is currently being looked after by his family at home while he waits for place in the National Rehabilitation
Center in Dun Laoighre. Shane is facing long term rehab and physiotherapy and the club would like to support and
assist him as he strives to make a full recovery.
Tickets are only €10 and can be purchased from any of the executive committee or players. Alternatively, you can
send an e-mail to colmcillegaa@eircom.net.

The Club wishes Shane the very best of luck in his recovery and encourages all people to give their support on the
night.
