Co. Finals Match Report from Cecil Ryan Juvenile PRO.

November 8, 2018

Under 10

What a busy time the U10 footballers have had. First up they travelled to Littleton to play Moycarkey-Borris in the Co Qtr Football Final. This proved to be a cracker of a match with Newport eventually running out winners on a scoreline of 6-2 to 2-2. Two goals each from Conor Floyd and Daniel Delaney sent them on their way. Another goal from Michael Quigley and Matthew Connolly made sure of the result.

Next up, two days later was the Co Semi Final when Nenagh came to Newport. This game was played under ideal conditions for football and Nenagh hit us with everything from the throw in. However the Newport boys dug deep and lead by a point at half time thanks to 1-1 from Daniel Delaney and a crucial penalty save from Conor Floyd. Newport put on the pressure in the second half and two more goals from Liam Duffy and Michael Quigley ensured that a place in the Co Final was now a reality.

Two days later all roads lead to Semple Stadium as the Newport boys , now playing their third game in five days, lined out against Moyle Rovers. This was a huge occasion for this young team playing in a Co Final at such a tender age. Moyle Rovers hit Newport with everything in the first minutes and were two goals up in no time. However the Newport lads recovered and the combined effort of Conor Hickey in goal and the full back line of Daniel Carew, Robert Houlihan and Kalem Harte stemmed the flow. A few minutes later Patrick Coffey found the net with a well taken goal and another 1-1 from Daniel Delaney meant that we went in ahead at half time. The second half began a blistering pace as the intense Sun shone down on Semple Stadium. Moyle Rovers, beaten in the final last year meant buisness and scored a quick goal to restore the lead. Evan Gleason replied with a lovely point to keep the pressure on. Our half back line of Jack Delahunty,Conor Floyd and Kealan Floyd battled hard to contain the opposition. Matthew Connolly and Liam Duffy gave a classy display at midfield. In the dying minutes , Moyle Rovers grabbed a lucky goal as the Newport legs tired after such an intense couple of days as Moyle Rovers eventually ran out winners by two goals.

This was a huge performance from our boys as Kevin Connolly, Michael Quigley, Oisin O`Reilly and Cormac Lenihan ran their legs off on the half forward line. Our full forward line of Evan Gleason, Patrick Coffey and Daniel Delaney excelled on the day  and made the Moyle Rovers defence sweat it out. Our subs ; Paul McCormack, Cian Flanagan, Colin Floyd, Paul Hogan, Killian Harvey , Andrew Doherty and Darragh Murphy all played their part over the five days when called upon. Well done to all as reaching a Co Final on your first attempt is some achievement. Thanks to all the parents who travelled to Littleton and Semple Stadium as your support counted at both games. Keep it up lads and lets build on this experience.

Best of luck to Moyle Rovers who now go on to represent Tipperary in the Community Games finals. Our day was rounded off nicely as the players proudly displayed their runner up medals and celebrated at the Chipper in Newport.
