Colmcille GFC Notes

November 8, 2018

The championship unfortunately didn’t get off to the start we’d hoped for with a disappointing 7 point defeat at the hands of Ballymahon on Saturday last. We eventually lost out on a score line of 0-8 to 2-09. The result leaves the lads with it all to do in the remaining two matches of the group stages. The Reserve League 1 team also lost on Sunday. They suffered a four point defeat to Abbeylara (1-3 to 0-10).
It’s going to be a quiet week for fixtures as preparations begin for the All Ireland Qualifiers. As yet there are no senior games fixed for Colmcille in the coming week but please check fixtures to confirm.
As part of Operation Transformation the Mr & Mrs competition was held last Saturday in Murtagh’s. The night was a huge success with plenty of fun and craic and a special guest appearance from Prince William and Kate Middleton. Myles Reilly asked the questions and as usual it was with plenty of tact and humour. The organisers would like to congratulate Angela and Bernie Hudson on winning the event. They would also like to thanks the people of the parish for supporting the event, all the couples who were such good sports for taking part, Joe and Kathleen Murtagh for the use of their lounge and for providing the music, Myles Reilly for asking the questions and all who were involved in making the night such a success.
There is now less than two weeks to go to the big cycle from Croke Park to Colmcille and the cyclists are training hard. The cycle is a huge undertaking and the group will be looking for some sponsorship to help them along. We also hope to see a big crowd out at the cross to welcome the gang home. They will be rolling in at approximately 5.30pm on the 25th.
The 12K Lake View Walk in aid of the club and St. Christophers will take place on 9th July. The Sunday morning walks also continue in preparation for the big day.
There was no winner of the June 5th lotto draw. The numbers drawn were 9, 14, 21 and 30. Lucky dip winners were: Philip Martin, Michael F. McKeon, Paul Kennedy Snr and Lisa and Enda McGahern. The jackpot now stands at €9,100. Envelops are available in all local shops and from any executive member.
