Come on the Clough’s!

November 8, 2018

Review of 2005 by Susan McKeon, P.R.O.

The New Year was kicked off for the Clough’s on January 14th in the Clogherinkoe/Broadford Pavilion with the 2005 AGM. After a one minutes silence for all who had passed away in the parish in the previous year it was announced that a mass would be held in St.Brigid’s, Clogherinkoe for all deceased club members. All appreciated this gesture of support and unity. Next on the agenda was to elect the committee for 2005. The committee was elected as follows:

President: Willie Coyne, Chairman: Tommy O’Toole, Vice Chairman: Jimmy Mooney, Secretary: Niall Mooney, Assistant Sec: Derek Lowry, Treasurers: Jack Conlon & Eddie Fanning, P.R.O: Susan McKeon, Trainer: John Lowry, Irish Registrar: Ger Lowry, County Board Rep: Niall Mooney, Mickey Connolly & Pauric Gravin, Selectors First Team: John Lowry, Eddie Fanning &Larry Malone, Captain First Team: Peter Kane, Vice Capt: Paeder Farrell, Captain Second Team: Johnny Knowles, Vice Capt: Eoin Robinson and First Aid: Bernie Miggin.

A sincere thank you was also extended to Joe Pheilin who helped train the lads in 2004 but could no longer partake in the coming year due to work commitments. Jack Conlon was also proud to announce that Clogherinkoe and Broadford Pavilion raised  €1,500 for the Tsunami victims. He also thanked everyone for their continued support of the Clogherinkoe Lotto.

January also saw the development of the first ever Clogherinkoe G.A.A website which is located at www.clogherinkoe.tk .The website although still in its infancy has attracted over 3,500 visitors and hopefully will continue to grow with input required from all corners of the club. Clogherinkoe is now level with other clubs who have taken the plunge into the World Wide Web. The website provides information with regards to fixtures, league positions, news with regards to the club and also a discussion forum that can be used by all to discuss football. This is a valuable resource as it provides a link to the club for people that may be in college during the week or abroad for the summer. Another development within the club is the group text messaging service, which is manned by a true clubman, Johnny Knowles. This text service ensures that all players are aware of training sessions and matches keeping everyone informed at all times. With the background business tidied up it was time to get down to the real business- FOOTBALL! The Intermediate team were the first off the blocks with the annual Keogh Cup. This year the contenders were Monasterevan who were privileged with a home match. Clogherinkoe were unlucky not to come away with a victory however the game did prove as a good warm up for the coming year. The Clough’s participated in the Seven Aside Competition in Naas. They were doing so well and had the chance of advancing until it came down to penalty shootouts. Sadly the accuracy was not there and Rathangan advanced instead. All enjoyed the day and hopefully more players will express an interest in it next year.
