U15′s lose out to Corinthians

Creggs under 15s were on the wrong end of a 14 – 50 scoreline at home to Corinthians on Sunday last.In fairness to the squad, notable absentees included Mark Dolan,Adam Whyte,Conor Shanagher, with Edward Clinton and Michael Feely forced to play even though both carrying knocks.Things got worse at half time when inspirational captain Brian Diffley had to leave the field.

26 nil down at the half time break, our depleted ranks never gave up, scoring to converted tries and unlucky not to score at least two more.We are looking for a big turnout at training on Thursday night as we prepare for an away trip to Ballinasloe next weekend.

It was good to see Dylan Morrin and Breen Fallon back in the fold, and a speedy recovery is wished for Theo McGuinness who sustained an injury in the first half.

U14 Friendly

Buccaneers RFC 17 Creggs RFC 19

This week there was a break in the u14 League and Creggs used the opportunity to play a friendly against Buccaneers in Athlone on Sunday morning. This was a beautiful day for Rugby and both teams ran the ball at every opportunity and only some last gasp defending at both sides stopped further scores. Creggs took and early lead through a penalty from Niall Cunniffe before extending their lead when Eoghan Coyle dived in from close range following fine work from Danny Arnold, David O Gorman and Brian Maloney. Buccaneers then got themselves back in the game late in the fist half when they scored a try which was converted leaving the score 8-7. Creggs continued to press and good work from Jason Hoare and Niall Cunniffe gained great ground and when the ball was taken on again by the forwards, Buccaneers were penalised and this was converted by Shane Purcell on the stroke of half time leaving the score 11-7.

Early on the second half Buccaneers used their bigger forwards to make good ground and they forced their way over from close which they converted to take a lead 14-11 early in the second half. Creggs then again gained territorial advantage and moved the ball well and Nathan Feeney did well to break a tackle to score in the corner to give Creggs a 16-14 lead. Buccaneers again took the lead from a penalty with two minutes left and it looked like it wasn’t going to be Creggs day however good play from Ronan Dowd, Cian Gately and Shane Purcell got Creggs back into Buccaneers territory and when Buccaneers were penalised Niall Cunniffe stood forward to slot the winning penalty leaving the final score 19-17.
