Crosshaven u13s marched into the next round of the SFAI National Cup

November 8, 2018

Crosshaven u13s marched into the next round of the SFAI National Cup with a hard fought 4-3 win over visitors Castleview in Camden on Saturday morning. Despite limited possession in the first half, crosshaven took their chances. Liam Maguire's excellent delivery from a corner was converted by Joe Glossop to take an early lead. With defenders getting through a lot of work, midfield worked hard to relieve the pressure and get the ball into the attacking zone. Two outstanding through balls following great build up play by Adam Gumley, Liam Maguire, Brian Lucey and Shay Murphy were each clinically dispatched by in form striker Rhys Kelly Noonan and Crosser took a 3-0 lead into half time against the run of play. Not for the first time this season, the lads struggled to hold their advantage. Some good finishing by the visitors and the odd mistake saw Castleview draw level with 10 minutes remaining. Captain Eoin O Halloran, returned from injury Ryan Murphy, ever reliable Evan Canty and the immovable Joe Wilson were doing Trojan work to stem the visitor's waves of attacks. Clinton Moore offered rock solid cover between the posts and was given no chance for any of the goals. Despite limited possession, midfield stuck to the plan, held its shape and were still creating chances with excellent through balls to the strikers. Only two excellent saves denied Shay Murphy the winner. The arrival from the bench of fresh legs in the form of Oisin Doran Noonan and James Murphy really helped the tiring team to keep its shape and a breakaway goal was always on the cards. The winning move saw striker Fionn Mansfield upended in the box, to give Crosser a clear cut penalty. Adam Gumley duly dispatched the winner with a nerveless ball into the corner of the goal leaving the goal keeper with no chance, much to the delight of a large supporting home crowd and manager Steve Mourinho Kiely . A frustrated Castleview ended the game with 10 men and a very loud sideline, but for the first time this season Crosshaven got their just rewards for all their hard work and fighting spirit. Grenagh await in the next round, but with the spirit and fight displayed on Saturday, this Crosser team will not fear anyone. For a team who won eight games on the bounce en route to promotion last season, this could be the result that puts them back in the winning habit and the win that will kick start their league campaign.
