KERRY U-21 HURLERS
Congratulations to the Kerry U-21 hurling panel who defeated Fermanagh in All Ireland U21 B Hurling Championship semi final on Saturday 21st August in Pearse Stadium, Galway by 325 to 109. The Crotta hurling club was well represented on the Kerry panel by Richard Nolan, at wing forward scoring two points, with his brother Shane scoring four points at corner forward, Darren Twomey and Jonathan Caffrey came on the 39 minute. Paul Costello, and Eoin O’Sullivan were also members of the victories Kerry panel. Kerry now meet Meath in All Ireland Final. Sligo captured their first Junior All-Ireland Football since 1935 when they beat Kerry comprehensively at Galway today. Sligo’s win was well deserved having outplayed Kerry in most areas of the field.

There was no darts tournament on Saturday night 14th August, due to The Darts Challenge between Parker’s Pub, Kilflynn and The Stretford End Bar, Causeway . Special guests on the night were Professional Dart players, Colin Lloyd, Wes Newton, Brendan Dolan and Willie O’Connor. Special report in next week’s notes.

SENIOR HURLERS
The Crotta Senior hurlers will play Lixnaw or Ballyheigue in round 3 of the County Championship on Saturday 4th September in Austin Stacks Park.

COUNSELLING The Shannow Family Resource Centre is offering a low cost, confidential counselling service, 1020 euro per session. Please telephone us on 066 71 98018. We will take your first name and telephone number and the counsellor will then contact you.
MABS The Money Advice and Budgeting Service (MABS) is a free, confidential and independent service for people in debt or in danger of getting into debt. A MABS advisor attends the centre on Thursday mornings. Meetings are by appointment only to book, please telephone MABS on 066 71 29750.
KERRY AUTISM ACTION Kerry Autism Action meet at the centre on the last Tuesday of each month (except for July and August), from 10am to 12 noon. The next information meeting will be on Tuesday 28th September. This group is led by Susan Dunne and all parents of children with autism are very welcome for a cup of coffee and a chat. No cost involved.
AA MEETINGS are held at the Shannow Family Resource centre every Wednesday night from 8.30pm to 9.30pm.
Al ANON MEETINGS are held at the Shannow Family Resource centre every Monday night from 8.30pm to 9.30pm.
BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT – we are hoping to start a support group for anyone suffering bereavement. Please telephone the centre for further information.
COMMUNITY ALERT We are pleased to announce that the group has secured a small amount of funding for installation of safety alarms for vulnerable and elderly members of the community.
We intend to apply for additional funding in the coming months so if you are in need of an alarm, or if you know of someone in need of one, please contact the Shannow Family Resource Centre on 066 71 98018 and we will pass your details onto the Community Alert Group.
SPECIAL NEEDS MUSIC AND MOVEMENT CLASS: this class is specifically for children with Down Syndrome and other children with delayed intellectual development. Classes will start on Monday 6th September 4.30pm to 5.30pm. Please contact Sinead on 066 71 98018 for information.
PARENT AND TODDLER/BABY GROUP: at the Shannow Family Resource Centre every Tuesday and Friday 10.30am to 12 noon starting on Tuesday 14th September.

ARTHRITIS IRELAND
is offering people living with arthritis in Kerry the unique opportunity to turn their life around in just six weeks, thanks to the roll out of their award winning self management programme, Living Well With Arthritis in Castleisland. Arthritis is a chronic and painful debilitating condition that can impact on every aspect of life. However, thanks to the introduction of this world renowned six week programme to Ireland by Arthritis Ireland, participants can learn to manage their condition, and take back control of their lives.The programme in Castleisland will commence in the Castleisland Family Resource Centre on Tuesday 5th October and will continue every week for six weeks from 79:30pm finishing on Tuesday 9th November. The course is delivered by people who have arthritis along with health professionals working with people with arthritis. Participants benefit not only by learning from the course leaders but by meeting with and talking to others with arthritis who are experiencing similar circumstances. There are only 18 places available on the Living Well With Arthritis programme; so early registration is essential to avoid disappointment.
