Dinner Dance

November 8, 2018

The club’s annual dinner dance was held in the villa rose hotel on Saturday 24th January. There was a great turnout on the night and a very enjoyable night was had by all. The club welcomed a living legend of Irish sport as guest of honour Micheal O’Mhuircheartaigh. Micheal and his wife Helena took time to visit the club facilities earlier in the evening. In his speech Micheal congratulated the club on their excellent facilities, and the success of the recent draw. He alluded to the famous Meath footballer Colm O’Rourke who won his first All Ireland at the age of 29 and told the audience that the St Mary’s club had to continue their progressive march and that success would undoubtedly follow.

The club Chairman Sean Mailey congratulated a host of successful underage teams. Particular mention was given to the under 16 girls, who in their second year in existence reached the county final only to be beaten in a replay. The under 14 boys were also congratulated on winning the Division One shield. It was the first year for a junior ladies team in the club. They played in both the league and championship. Although they did not have much success off the pitch in their inaugural year the team have bonded and learned for their experiences and look forward to another hopefully more successful year. The girls were presented with certificates in appreciation of their commitment and dedication over the past year. The reserves under the management of Joe Blake had an excellent run of results to reach the Junior B championship final against St. Eunan’s and forced a replay only to be narrowly beaten in the rematch. No doubt Joe will hope to see some of the  younger players on this side come through to the senior grade as he takes over the reins of the senior team this year.
