Dissappointment at losing South Junior football final

November 7, 2018

South Junior Football Final

Our junior footballers played their South Final last Saturday in Fethard against Ballingarry. It was our first appearance in the final since 2008 and we were aiming to win it for the first time since 2005. We started off well and were in control of the first half however for all our hard work we were only leading at half time by the slimmest of margins, 1-3 to 7. The game turned against us in the first few minutes of the second half when Ballingarry got in for 2 quick goals. A further point for Ballingarry left 6 in it and we had a mountain to climb. We managed to pull it back to 3 points when Paul Horan goaled but that was as close as it got. There was only 3 points in it in last few minutes but as we went looking for the scores to level the game Ballingarry took advantage and got in for another 2 goals which gave them a 9 point lead and they ran out winners on a scoreline of 5-6 to 1-9 in the end. The scoreline however doesn't reflect the closeness of the game as there was only a kick of a ball in it throughout. Our lads now have to pick themselves up as they have a quarter final to look forward to where they will play the winners of the mid final.

The team on the day was: Richie Needham, Kieran Clancy, Colm Dunne, Conor Barry, Paddy Moroney, Cathal Mahoney, Shane Gorey, Paul Horan, Darren Meagher, Conor Clancy, Tony O Brien, Aidan Buckley, John Moroney, Robbie Meagher, Nicky Kearney Subs: Neil Gleeson, Mark Slattery, Darren Boland, Robbie McCormack, Aaron Cronin, Conor Cuddihy, Ciarán Mockler, Conor Gorey, Danny Gleeson, Damien Barry, Willie O Brien.
