Div 3 Hurling League

November 8, 2018

After a very entertaining sixty minutes of hurling, Edenderry suffered a six point defeat to Seir Keiran on Monday afternoon.

It took the reds time to settle and when Eoghan Kelly pointed Edenderry’s first score in the eight minute, Seir Keiran already had four points to their credit. A quick line ball from Sean Og Farrell to half back Ger Hanlon resulted in Edenderry’s second score of the game.

Seir Keiran hit two scores in quick succession but in the sixteenth minute points from Jason Carey and Eoghan Kelly reduced the deficit to two.

Again Seir Keiran replied with two more points and doubled their lead to 0-8 0-4 but a five minute spell turned the game on its head starting with two points from Jason Carey. Edenderry were now trailing by two points but when substitute Martin Keogh found space in front of goal, he made no mistake and fired the sliotar to the back of the net.

Eoghan Kelly stretched Edenderry’s lead to two points with a well taken point with just two minutes to go but lapse in concentration allowed Seir Keiran in for 1-3 without reply in the space of two minutes. Eoghan Kelly pointed in the thirty first minute to keep the reds within touching distance at the half time whistle.

Half time:
Edenderry 1-8 1-11 Seir Keiran

The second half belonged to the visitors as Edenderry failed to find the target on several occasions. Seir Keiran pointed twice in the third minute but it would be another ten minutes before they scored again. With the reds trailing by six with sixteen minute gone, Edenderry won a fourteen yard free for a foul on Mark Young and it was Martin Keogh again who fired his shot to the back of the net to reduce the margin to three points.

However, Edenderry would then go ten minutes before registering another score while Seir Keiran chalked up another three points. Jason Carey pointed in the twenty sixth minute but again the Clareen men hit two more points.

A Martin Keogh point with two minutes to go left six between the sides as referee Ciaran Groome called time on the second half.

Full time:

Everyone at Edenderry GAA would like to wish Jonathan Geraghty a speedy recovery.
