Division 2 Round 2 Dundalk Gaels 0-20 Mochtas 0-8

Dundalk Gaels recorded their first victory of the Division 2 League in this second round home game against St Mochtas on Thursday the 29th April.

The Gaels dominated the first half and found themselves 5-1 to the good before a penalty was awarded to the Mochtas.  This could have easily changed the shape of the game but the woodwork denied the Mochtas and allowed the Gaels to pull further ahead to lead 0-9 to 0-1 at the break.  First half scores came from 3 frees by Eanna McArdle, 2 points each for the midfield pairing of David Maloney and David McComish and two Stephen Coleman points.

The Mochtas started the second half the brightest with the two opening points of the half before the Gaels responded with two of their own.  Number 6 for the Mochtas saw red for a very dangerous challenge on Eanna McArdle who bounced up to convert the free.  In the second half Jamie Faulkner continued to win some great ball around the middle of the field.  The Mochtas then converted another two scores before Eanna McArdle once again found the posts and Derek Crilly converted a 45.  The Mochtas scored another 3 points in the second half while the Gaels brought their scoring tally to 20, 15 of which came from play.  Some well worked points were taken on the night, Stephen Coleman scored a great point after some good build up play from Daire O’Callaghan.

A good all round display helped the Gaels on their way to this victory and they must look to build on this heading in to Round 3 of the league on Saturday the 8th of May away to the Sean McDermotts.
