Drangan Community Centre

The official opening of the new community centre in Drangan was held on Saturday evening, December 8th . A large crowd attended to see the new community centre which comprises of a sports hall, lobby, meeting room, stage and storage areas, which connect seamlessly with the existing building which contains toilets, kitchen, and a playschool.

The official cutting of the ribbon was performed by Nicholas Moroney, Chairman of the community centre committee.

In his address Nicholas expressed the importance of the local community hall in maintaining rural communities like Drangan. He thanked the people of the parish who had contributed so generously to the project. He also thanked the South Tipperary Development Company who gave a very substantial grant which made the project possible. Financial assistance was also received from South Tipperary County Council and the Irish Sports Council.

Nicholas also complimented the design and construction team of Michael Nash, Architect, Drangan, Bryan McCarthy, Consulting Engineers Waterford, G Sexton and Partners, fire consultants, Waterford, Edward Cotter, Partnership Quantity Surveyors, Limerick and Building Contractors Kilnockin Construction of Fethard.

The building was blessed by parish priest Fr. Lambe who complimented all associated with the development.

Cllr Joe Brennan addressed the crowd on behalf of South Tipperary Development Company who are the agency tasked with administering Leader funds in the area. Joe complimented Pat Clancy on the quality of the application made which had such a bearing on whether grant aid would be given or not.

John Crosse chairman of South Tipperary County Council congratulated the people of Drangan on their new community centre and expressed his delight that the County Council were in a position to aid the project with an amenity

grant.

Local councillor Jimmy O’Brien on behalf of the people of the parish thanked the committee of the community hall for the enormous amount of work which they had put into planning and bringing the dream of a new community hall to a reality. He stated that the new hall would be a wonderful facility and would be available to everyone in the parish for all sorts of occasions.

The opening was followed by teas and sandwiches prepared by the hardworking committee and the attendance were entertained by local musicians John McCormack and Eric Wilson.

A great evening was had by all.
