Intermediate Championship

Our Intermediate panel travelled to Cappawhite on Sunday afternoon to play Arravale Rovers in this eagerly contested first round of the west intermediate championship. Our men got off to a flyer in the opening twenty minutes leading by eight points to three at one stage, with this being the largest lead we held throughout. Discipline proved to be a major factor on the day with the referee blowing on many occasions. This was the case for both sides and we had Paudie Ryan and Jody Ryan to thank for scoring from placed balls in the opening half with Jamie O Toole and Paul Shanahan contributing to points from play. Treacys let the Arravale men into it approaching half time with them scoring points from placed balls and a couple from play. The half time scoreline was eight points apiece. Arravale contested the second half much better and once again both sides traded points from placed balls courtesy of Jody Ryan (ST) and Timmy Dalton (AR). Treacys fell asleep at one period and allowed Arravale take the lead with a goal coming from a long ball in. However the Treacys management then introduced Declan Hickey who had just returned from Norway and put him in corner forward in place of Ollie Carr. The eagerness to hurl must have stood to the man as he clocked up three points from play in quick succession. Both teams battled hard towards the end and a Jody Ryan free levelled the game at 0-14 to 1-11.Arravale received a free in the last minute out on the side-line which was debatable but fortunately for the Treacy men it was put wide.

The game finished a draw with positives and negatives to be taken from it once again from a Treacys perspective. It is still very early in the season and a lot more work has to be done on the training field with coach Eamonn Sweeney so management requests all players to put in a strong effort from here on out.
