Dublin Hurlers beat Laois

November 8, 2018

DUBLIN 0-25 LAOIS 0-16
Dublin progress to meet Kilkenny in the Leinster SHC semi-final after overcoming a misfiring Laois in this quarter-final at Nowlan Park on Sunday.
The greatest difference between the counties was the Dubs far superior ability to convert chances as the O Moore County hit 17 wides over the course of the game compared to six for Dublin.
Laois also finished the game with 13 men after Brian Campion (45th minute) and sub Colin Delaney (69th minute) was both dismissed after second yellow card offences.
The sending off of Campion came at a stage when Dublin led 0-14 to 0-10 but Laois were beginning to show signs of cutting into the deficit.
The Dublin attack had a mixed day in a sense - their accuracy from all angles and distances was highly impressive yet they were beaten for the most part in the aerial tussles, particularly across their half-forward line.
The midfield partnership of John McCaffrey and Shane Durkin continued in the rich vein they showed in the league and between them tallied seven points as well as combining well in the engine room.
Dublin led at half-time 0-10 to 0-8 with the switch of Liam Rushe from full-forward to left half-forward paying dividends towards the close of the half.
Three points on the restart from Simon Lambert, an excellent long range effort from the left wing, Paul Ryan, and Liam Rushe moved Dublin five points clear while Laois continued to squander opportunities.
Following the sending off of Campion Dublin operated with the extra man in the full-back line and on a day when goal chances were conspicious by their absence Laois were always facing an uphill battle to the finish.
Dublin face Kilkenny in Croke Park on June 20 (2pm) on a double-header with the Offaly v Galway semi-final (4pm).
