Minor footballers book Leinster semi berth

DUBLIN 0-17 WEXFORD 0-9

Dublin shrugged off the challenge of Wexford in Saturday’s Leinster MFC quarter-final at DCU.

The Dubs held the slight upperhand for a lot of the game and it was a dominant period at the start of the second half that paved the way for victory.

The home side led 0-8 to 0-6 at the break but points from Aaron Byrne, David McGrath and Garvin Gallagher (two) and the influential Eoghan O’Donnell pushed the Dubs 0-13 to 0-7 clear by the 43rd minute.

Wexford never ‘went away’ though and the accuracy from placed balls of Donal Shanley kept them in the hunt with ten minutes to go.

However, Dublin closed the game out in promising fashion with Michael Deegan, the impressive Con O’Callaghan and McGrath sealing a semi-final spot on July 6 against Kildare.

O’Callaghan was lively throughout and caused problems for the Wexford defence and with a little more luck could have added a goal to his tally but was denied by the crossbar in the 58th minute.

SCORERS – Dublin: D McGrath 0-5 (0-1 ‘45’), C O’Callaghan 0-4, E O’Donnell, A Byrne, G Gallagher 0-2 each, S Molony, M Deegan 0-1 each. Wexford: D Shanley 0-8 (0-7f), P Barden 0-1.
