DUBLIN 0-16 DUBS STARS 1-11

A Paul Hudson-inspired Dublin got Jim Gavin’s tenure of 2013 off to a winning start in the annual Evening Herald/Dublin Bus Dubs Stars football challenge at St Peregrine’s on Tuesday afternoon.

The young Thomas Davis forward, a member of the 2012 All-Ireland U21 winning team, slotted six points (one free) over the course of this well-contested clash to edge the Dubs to victory.

The Dubs Stars had a late opportunity to draw the match but Philly McMahon blazed his goal chance over the crossbar to see the game conclude with the Dubs two points to the good.

The only goal of the tie arrived in first half injury-time when Dean Rock created the opening for Miceál McCarthy to fire past Vinny Whelan for the Dubs Stars to lead 1-4 to 0-6 at the interval.

Points from the impressive Paddy Andrews and McCarthy pushed the Dubs Stars three points clear early in the second half.

However, Dublin rallied with points from Ciarán Reddin, Craig Dunleavy and Harry Dawson and the Dubs also held the upperhand in the final quarter to capture victory.
