Dunshaughlin take points away to Walterstown

November 8, 2018

Dunshaughlin claimed a little revenge for their A League defeat against the same opposition two days earlier as the visitors took full points away from Walterstown in a hard hitting entertaining encounter.
Walterstown 0-05
Dunshaughlin 1-12

The visitors got off to an electric start with David Devereux and Eamon Bowe shooting points in the first two minutes. Walterstowns efforts produced points in the 6th and 9th minutes to draw level, but that is as good as it would get for the home side for the evening. Michael Johnson slotted over a point in the 11th minute and midway throught the first half, Graham Dowd strode purposely forward to stroke a fine effort between the posts. Walterstown managed to reduce the deficit to one on 23 minutes with a point but almost immediately Dunshaughlin fired back with a point from the boot of David Devereux. Dunshaughlin added further points in quick succession, young Eamon Bowe firing his second before Paddy McHale weighed in with a fisted point after some nice build up play. Walterstown did try to reign in their opposition but they found the Dunshaughlin defense in unforgiving mood. This left the visitors leading by four at the break.

Despite scoring the first point of the second half, Walterstown found themselves shut out completely until two minutes into time added on. In the meantime Dunshaughlin scored 1-05 without reply. Duncan Geraghty converted a lovely left footed effort to cancel out Walterstowns opener, before the spritely Eamon Bowe scored the third of a fine personal haul, the youngster a constant thorn in the Walterstown side. Having missed a first half penalty, Dunshaughlin weren’t going to spurn any more goal chances and in the 47 minutes Ciaran Hoary ran on to the end of a cross field ball to punch to the net extend the visitors lead to eight. Dunshaughlin were reduced to 14 but it didn’t stop them as Trevor Dowd added another point ten minutes from time and within minutes Walterstown were reduced to 14 too. But the home side almost got a lifeline the desperately needed but ad the ball rolled goal wards Neil O’Dwyer cleared off the line to deny them a goal. Declan O’Dwyer entered the fray to pump over a booming left kick from a free far out on the right wing before David Devereux rounded off the Dunshaughlin scoring in the first minute of time added on. Walterstown did manage a point a minute later but it was little more the consolation on a night that they found themselves second best.
This was a fine team performance with Dunshaughlin’s defensive unit playing very well, with stand out performances from Brian Murphy and Ciaran Hoary, and Duncan Geraghty, Trevor Dowd and Eamon Bowe playing well further up the pitch.
