On Sunday afternoon Birr travelled to Edenderry to play the semi final and the Birr boys started smartly and raced into a 1-02 to 0-00 scoreline by half time.
Edenderry had not really played up to half time but the second half was a different story as the Reds stepped up to the mark and hurled like heroes. Briain Nolan started the comeback when he doubled on a 65′ from Martin Keogh to score Edenderry’s first goal.
Martin Keogh then reduced the arrears to one point when he scored a point from a long range free. The Reds then repelled Birr as they sought to increase their lead. John Cummins was brave in goals to prevent two goals and Lee Pearson, Alan Harte & Ben Lynch made great clearances from defence.
Then an Edenderry break out of defence resulted in a 65′ free to Edenderry. Martin KEogh took the free and it deceived the Birr keeper to go straight to the net. Edenderry held out for the remaining 5 minutes to achieve an historic win and a final appearance waits for them against either Coolderry/Shinrone or Kilcormac/Killoughey on the 8th May.
