Edenderry GAA Golf Society

November 8, 2018

The Edenderry GAA Golf Society held their second outing of 2012 in the Heritage Golf course in Killenard, Portarlington on Saturday last July 14th. This outing was the presidents prize, our president being the great Mickey Brady who we were delighted to say graced us with his presence and showed there is plenty of life the old dog yet with a truly remarkable display of golf for a man of his age. Despite the early tee off time the society’s regulars once again turned out in force to play this beautiful golf course designed by the legendary Seve Ballesteros. After all the cards were checked and totted up we had 3 players finishing on an excellent 34 points so it was down to a count back to see who was our winner. That turned out to be the Kerry native and local businessman the very popular Ger Foley, well done Ger on winning first prize in our society for the first time in his career. On a very close second place was former great and now Edenderry senior selector Kevin Guing. The third man on 34 points who had to settle for winning his class A was Greg Farrelly, well done to the 3 boys on such wonderful scoring. We also had a congested group of players in the next level down with another 3 players finishing on 33 points which made this outing the tightest ever finish showing that in golf every single shot counts. Winning class B was our minor footballer and talented golfer Jamie Dolan with 33 points. Class C was taken by our current ladies GAA club sponsor Andy Walsh with 33 points also, great to see a youthful Andy in the winners enclosure. The front nine was nabbed by the form golfer young Ciaran ‘Gazza’ Farrell with 16 points whilst the back nine was won by our scratch golfer the very talented Johnny Brady with a fabulous 19 points. Our nearest the pin competition was won by Jamie Dolan, who was collecting his second prize of the day so well done Jamie on landing a beautiful iron shot to within 2 feet on the 15th green.

The full results were:

First: Ger Foley 34 points. Second: Kevin Guing 34 points

Class A: Greg Farrelly 34 points Class B: Jamie Dolan 33 points Class C: Andy Walsh 33 points

Front Nine: Ciaran Farrell 16 points Back Nine: Johnny Brady 19 points

The presentation was held in Finbarr Cullens on Saturday evening when captain Niall Comerford thanked all the players and sponsors for making the day such a great occasion. The society would like to say a huge thanks to our three sponsors on the day. To Sean Grennan of Midland Vetinary, to our president Mickey Brady for his donation of some wonderful prizes and to Finbarr Cullen our main sponsor on the day who looked after us all superbly that evening, thanks to all for their wonderful generosity without which we could not survive. Thanks is also extended to our club PRO David Farrell for the photos and reports.

Our next outing is our captains prize which will be held in Edenderry Golf Club on Saturday August 18th (tee bank from 11.00 to 12.30) This will be a day and night of celebration so make sure to add to your diary.
