Edenderry take Division 3 Title

November 8, 2018

Edenderry junior footballers are league champions for 2010 and for the first time in five years. Edenderry dominated the opening stages of this game and had 1-5 on the scoreoard before Tullamore got their first score after 24 minutes.

Stuart Cullen got things started for the reds with a superb point. David Farrelly then pointed from a free after Stuart Cullen was fouled and then Stuart pointed a free after once again he was fouled. Edenderry were playing arguably their best game of the year and some quick ball had Stuart Cullen and David Farrelly causing havoc. David Farrelly pointed his second before Stuart Cullen added another point to his tally. A mix up in the Tullamore defence when the goalie and defender appeared to run into each other causing the ball to fall from the goalie’s hand and allowing Stuart Cullen to kick it into the empty net. Tullamore got their first score and quickly followed this up with another point from a free. Stephen Guing kicked a great long range point for the reds before Tullamore rounded off the first half scoring to leave the half time score. 1-6 to 0-3

Edenderry….1-6
Tullamore….0-3

Edenderry started the second very well and a great run by Stuart Cullen who played a slip pass off to Dean Cummins resulted in the Cummins registering his first score of the game. Tullamore then got 2 goals in the space of a few minutes and had narrowed the gap consideribly but Stuart Cullen set up David Farrelly who calmly slotted home a great goal for Edenderry. David then added another point from a free. Tullamore kicked two more points but a hat-trick of free’s from the very impressive Cullen put distance between the teams and Edenderry would run out comfortable 6 point winners.

In goals Colin Dunne pulled off a few great saves at crucial times while Derek Kelly was very solid at full back. David Hanlon was extremely impressive and his surging runs from the back where very influencial at times. David Farrelly’s fielding and abilty to bring others into the game was very important and a personal tally of 1-3 rounded off a good nights work for the veteran. Peter Manley(when introduced) made a huge difference just like he did in the semi final. Tullamore couldnt handle his physical presence and he won back a huge amount of possession and a lot of the ‘dirty ball’. Stuart Cullen finished with 1-6 and was involved in just about all of Edenderry’s scores as Tullamore had no answer to his lightening pace and trickery,

Edenderry would like to thank the management team of Peader O’Neill and Kevin Guing for all their work since January and congratulations on becoming league champions.
