Edenderry U14's qualify for semi-finals

November 8, 2018

Edenderry u14’s recorded a whopping thirty four point win over local rivals Rhode on Friday night. The reds played the first half with the aid of a very strong wind and while they held a huge thirteen point lead at half time, it could of in fact been more only for the woodwork. Edenderry hit the crossbar three times in the first half and in the second half they held Rhode scoreless to record an extremely impressive win.

Edenderry started the game the brighter and Lee Hyland pointed after just two minutes to open the reds account. Three minutes later Jordan Hayes doubled Edenderry’s tally and just thirty seconds later Lee Hyland put the ball in the net to give Edenderry a commanding 1-2 to no score lead after five minutes. Rhode registered their first score on seven minutes from a pointed free but five minutes later Peter McNamara hit back for the reds after some great play from Jordan Hayes. Just two minutes Jordan scored his first of his three goals. Rhode scored twice both from free’s either side of a Peter McNamara point for the reds.

David Moloney and Jordan Hayes combined terrifically and the latter played a superb ball through to Stevie Osborne who crashed the ball to the back of the net. Jordan Hayes and David Moloney then registered two points of their own before Rhode rallied and hit three unanswered points, two from free’s. With time just up in the first half a long ball into Andrew Moloney was laid off to the onrushing Peter McNamara who finished the ball to the back of the net leaving the half time score 4-7 0-6.

Half Time:

Edenderry 4-7 0-6 Rhode

Having had the advantage of the strong breeze in the first half Edenderry were expecting Rhode to come at them fierce in the second half but it was not to be. Edenderry dominated the whole half and held their opponents scoreless.

Lee Hyland opened the scoring after six minutes and on eleven minutes Jordan Hayes scored his third point of the game. Conor Farrell kicked a great point on the fifteenth minute and from that point on Edenderry never looked back. A Stevie Osborne point was followed up by an Andrew Moloney goal. Points from Eoin Farrell, Andrew Moloney(2), Lee Hyland(2), Jordan Hayes and Peter McNamara put Edenderry twenty seven points ahead. With just two minutes remaining Jordan Hayes terrorised the Rhode defence scoring 2-1 in a minute and a half.
