Elphin GAA CLUB NOTES 5th SEPT 2016

November 8, 2018

Elphin 1-10 Strokestown 1-8

The Seniors defeated Strokestown in the last game of the League and in doing so finished in 4th place, narrowly missing out on a Semi-Final spot. We wish to thank the players and Management for their efforts throughout the year.

Congratulations to Brian Higgins and Áine O’Connor who got married last week.

Elphin 0-6 Creggs 1-3

The Juniors rounded off their League campaign by drawing with table toppers Creggs 0-6 to 1-3. Their next game is away to Oran B in the Championship on September 17th.

The Minors suffered a 1-10 to 3-10 defeat to St Ciarans. They must now await other results to see if they will get a place in the knock-out stages.

The U16s confirmed their place in the County Final, defeating Tulsk by 6-9 to 3-11. They will face either Kilbride or St Brigids B.

The U14s maintained their unbeaten run, defeating Strokestown by 7-10 to 3-7. They host Roscommon Gaels, in the last group game, on Thursday at 7pm. Dara Casserly-Beirne suffered a broken collar bone in a recent game and we wish him a speedy recovery.

The U12 A Team reached the Division 2 League Final following a 4-12 to 2-9 win over Oran. Captain Evan Murray led by example. He was ably assisted by Daniel Christie, who was awesome in goals. Evan Gunn scored 1-4, Jude O’Rourke 1-2, Michael Sharkey scored 2-0 and Adam Dwyer score some points that our county players would be proud of. Darragh Callaghan, Colin McGrath, Darragh Gilligan, Sam O’Rourke, James Brennan, Adam Twocock, John Anthony Quinn, Dylan Scott and our own “Brian Dooher” John Finnerty were all excellent.

Well done to the U12 B Team who had a comfortable win over Western Gaels in the Division 6 Semi-Final on Monday evening (September 5th).

Coaching continues for U8s and U10s at the usual times.
