Feile na nGael 2009

On Friday 19th June Feile na nGael commences in Edenderry. Feile na nGael is an annual festival of hurling involving U14 club teams from each county. This year Edenderry will host Warwickshire for the weekend.

The weekend will commence at 3pm on the Friday when Edenderry take on Warwickshire in the first game.

Both teams will then proceed to Birr for the opening ceremony and parade through Birr at 7.30pm. The parade involving 4,500 hurlers, camogie players and handballers is one of the largest youth parades to take place in Europe on an annual basis.

Edenderry GAA will also host a series of games on Saturday 20th involving Warwickshire, Woodford Gaels (Cavan), Ballinamere/Durrow and Edenderry. The fixtures are as follows:

Edenderry v Cavan 10.00am
Ballinamere/Durrow v Warwickshire 11.00am
Warwickshire v Cavan 12.15pm
Edenderry v Ballinamere/Durrow 1.15pm

The top two teams from this group will go forward to play semi-finals on Saturday evening starting at 5pm in Ratheniska (Laois) with the final to be played on Sunday 21st in O’Brien Park, Tullamore at 12noon.

Edenderry GAA will provide refreshments to players, officials and supporters of all four teams during the games on Saturday. An U14 disco will be held on Saturday night from 9-11pm with an admission charge of €6. All Warwickshire and Edenderry U14 hurlers will be admitted free of charge.

As this is a major event for Edenderry GAA we ask all club supporters to come along on Friday and Saturday to support our young hurlers. A great weekend of hurling is guaranteed and admission is free.
