First ever County hurling title for St. Patrick's

November 7, 2018

Last Saturday afternoon in Holycross our Junior hurlers made history by winning the club's first ever adult county hurling title by beating Toomevara in the final of the County Junior Hurling League. It was a good end to the year after the disappointment of losing in the championship. It was a good tight game for this time of year with both teams giving everything they had. We were leading at half time by 1-6 to 1-3 with the goal coming from Aaron Cronin. We went further ahead in second half when Mark Mullally got in for a goal. Toomevara brought the game back level with a few minutes to go but we got the last 3 scores of the game to end up winning on a scoreline of 2-16 to 2-13. Well done to all the players and management team on their success throughout the year and hopefully they can build on it for next year. The team was: John Moroney, Kieran Clancy, Paul Horan, Colm Dunne, Ciarán Mockler, Nicky Kearney, Paddy Moroney, Danny Gleeson, Aidan Buckley, Shane Gorey, Conor Barry, Tony O Brien, Mark Slattery, Robbie McCormack, Aaron Cronin Subs Robbie Meagher, Conor Clancy, Neil Gleeson, Richie Needham, Conor Cuddihy, Darren Boland, Willie O Brien, Conor Gorey. Due to injury Cathal Mahoney and Brendan Gleeson did not tog out.

Under 21

Our U21 hurlers were in semi final action last Sunday morning in Monroe where Killenaule were the opposition. 2 early goals in the first 5 minutes from Aidan Buckley and Cathal Hurley gave us the perfect start to the game. A third goal from Mark Slattery gave us an 8 point lead at half time 3-3 to 4 points. The concession of frees gave Killenaule the opportunity to get back into the game and they brought it back to 3 near the end but fortunately time was up and we won on a scoreline of 3-6 to 0-12.

Moyle Rovers or Cahir will be the opposition in the final where hopefully we can add more silverware for the year. It will be the first final that Anner Gaels have reached since we joined up. Team on the day was: Darren Boland, Ciarán Mockler, Brian Healy, Ciarán O Meara, Paul Moloney, Nicky Kearney, Conor Clancy, Brian Delahaunty, Dylan Fitzgerald, Robbie Meagher, Mark Mullally, Aidan Buckley, Willie O Brien, Cathal Hurley, Mark Slattery Subs : Brendan Gleeson, Willie Morgan, Conor Cuddihy, Conor Gorey, Jack Purcell.

As the other semi final has not yet been fixed we don’t expect the final to be played until after Christmas.
