Edenderry......1-10
Raheen..........1-04

Last Friday evening in Gracefield, Edenderry Senior footballers regained their place in Division 1 of the football league with a 1-10 to 1-04 win over Raheen.

The Reds made the perfect start to this game, when Robbie Glennon had the ball in the Raheen net within a couple of minutes of the throw in, after good work from Keith McGuinness. With Raheen's first attack of the game they unfortunate not to score as they hit the post. Mark Young then put four points between the sides, as he converted a free awarded for a Raheen defender over-carrying, after he was put under severe pressure from Adrian Mahon, Keith McGuinness and Robbie Glennon. Raheen then opened their account with a brilliant point, before Keith McGuinness fisted a good point for Edenderry, after a great pass from Cillian Farrell found Johnny Hurst in a corner forward position. Johnny then burst past two Raheen defenders to pass to Keith who sent the ball over the bar. Mark Young then grabbed his second score, when he kicked a great point after good work from Shane Connell and Cillian Farrell, when Shane broke the ball to Cillian, who found Mark with a pin-point pass. Raheen then pulled a point back from a free, before Mark Young added another point, this time from a free awarded for a high tackle on Stephen Doyle. Mark Young then scored his fourth point of the game as he slipped past two defenders to send a good shot over the bar. Before halftime Raheen scored their third point, to leave five points between the sides at the break.

Halftime, Edenderry 1-05 Raheen 0-03.

On the resumption of play, Edenderry were awarded a free-kick after a Raheen defender pulled down Robbie Glennon. Mark Young stepped up to take the resulting kick, and made no mistake as the ball floated between the uprights. Edenderry then went into a bit of a lull, and allowed Raheen to win more possession. Raheen should have scored a goal, but their corner forward hit the outside of the post from a tight angle. But shortly after that, they did have the ball in the Edenderry net, when slack defending allowed a Raheen player run straight through for a goal. Colin McCormack then made a fine save shortly after, to prevent Raheen's second goal. Jack Sheedy then made two substitutions, with Stephen Guing coming on for Johnny Blong, and Paddy Lynch for Mark Young. Robbie Glennon then settled his side, when he kicked a point from a free awarded for a foul on Cillian Farrell. Edenderry then made their third substitution with Stuart Cullen replacing Alan Doyle. Cillian Farrell then scored his first point, as he converted a free for a cynical trip on Robbie Glennon. Colin McCormack then made another great save as got down brilliantly to his left hand side to keep Raheen out again. Raheen then scored a point, to reduce Edenderry's lead to four points. Cillian Farrell then showed his experience as he slotted over his second point, to put five between the sides, when a younger head might have opted for goal. Then Basil Malone was introduced for Cillian Farrell, and Colm Cummins came in for Richie Dalton. The last score of the game went to Stephen Doyle, who kicked a fantastic point after a great move involving Stephen Murphy and Johnny Hurst.

Edenderry had some good performances in this final from Colin McCormack, Stuart Quinn, Stephen Murphy, Stephen Doyle, Robbie Glennon and Stephen Guing.

Jack Sheedy will be happy with the progression of his side throughout the league, as he had the chance to blood a lot of young players and still win games, and ultimately gain promotion to Division 1.
