full time Games Promotion Officer (GPO)

November 8, 2018

Over the last year Maynooth GAA Club have been working closely with Kildare and Leinster GAA to secure the services of a full time Games Promotion Officer (GPO) for the club. Chris Conroy was appointed in September but prior to Christmas, Chris was offered a similar position in his native Cavan. He accepted this position and we wish him well and thank him for his work with Maynooth GAA.

Luckily for Maynooth GAA we have been able to appoint Martin Fitzgerald to the position of GPO. Martin will be very familiar to followers of Gaelic Games in Kildare having hurled with Kildare Seniors since 2010 while playing Hurling and Football for his club Ardclough.

Speaking to Martin this week he outlined a number of highlights from his playing career to date. Foremost amongst these was the County final win over Naas last year, winning the Christy Ring Cup with Kildare in 2014, while on a personal level the accolade of Christy Ring All Star capped a wonderful 2014 for Martin.

Martin has been coaching regularly with Kildare GAA over the last 8 years with clubs and schools throughout the county. A qualified Award 1 coach he is currently undertaking his Award 2 Qualification and is very much looking forward to sharing his knowledge and experience with the coaching and playing members of Maynooth GAA at all levels.

Not one to hang about, Martin has already lined up his first 2 workshops for hurling coaches in the club, he will continue to assist with the extensive coaching and games programmes on offer in the Primary Schools in Maynooth along with a new and exciting club initiative he will be launching in Football and Hurling in the coming months.

It's an exciting time to be involved in Maynooth GAA, be it as coach or player. We welcome Martin into the fold and look forward to working with him over the coming weeks, months and years ahead. Martin can be contacted at martin.fitzgerald.gpo.kildare@gaa.ie and is more than willing to help with any queries.
