G4Os take part in Liz Balfe memorial cup

November 7, 2018

St. Patrick's Ladies G4O team travelled to Leixlip for the Liz Balfe memorial blitz, which was held on Saturday 16th of September. This was the second year of the tournament and was held in St. Mary's GAA Club.It was a 9 aside competition but St. Patrick's were low on numbers as was St. Kevins Staplestown (Kildare) so both teams amalgamated. There were 7 teams in the competition: Leixlip (Liz's friends), Lucan Sarsfields (Liz's friends, Lucan Sarsfields G4O, Confey Babes, Oran Roscommon, St. Patrick's & St. Kevins and St. Mary's Leixlip (hosts). Each team played three games with only two teams winning all three and progressing to the final. St. Patrick's were one of these teams and they were to face Liz's Lucan mate's. It was a very close encounter and St. Patrick's had a few injuries but soldiered on and kept the game to draw until the last kick when the Lucan ladies scored a well worked point . Well done to all the St. Patrick's ladies, where it was great get to the final. All the finalists were awarded medals from Joan (Liz's Mam). Afterwards there was a raffle and all monies raised was split between Pieta House and The Irish Premature Babies Association. Just over €3k was raised for the two very deserving charities. Well done to everyone who took part and thanks to all those who were involved in organising this wonderful memorial tournament.Image
